    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the overheating of a sprayed deposit and to prevent various disadvantages due to overheating by forming a sprayed deposit while applying cooling to the internal surface of a cylinder bore by introducing a refrigerant into a passage formed by covering the opening of a cooling jacket. CONSTITUTION:The opening of a cooling jacket 3 provided to the periphery of a cylinder bore 2 is covered, e.g. with a cover plate 4, by which a passage connecting one end of the above jacket 3 to the other end is formed. A material having wear resistance and corrosion resistance is thermally sprayed while applying cooling to the internal surface of the above cylinder bore 2 by introducing a refrigerant into the above passage by which a sprayed deposit is formed. By this method, the cooling effect is increased and the overheating of the sprayed deposit can be prevented, and the shape precision of the cylinder bore can be improved.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a Ti-type member excellent in wear resistance by providing the surface of the part, requiring wear resistance, of a base material consisting of intermetallic compound TiAl with a wear resistant layer prepared by incorporating specific amounts of carbide to the same material as the base material. CONSTITUTION:In a base material essentially consisting of intermetallic compound TiAl, a wear resistant layer consisting of TiAl of the same quality as that of the base material and 2-40wt.% carbide is provided as a surface layer for the part requiring wear resistance. Further, TiC, Cr2C2, Cr2C3, VC, NbC, MoC, W2C, etc., are used as the above carbide, and the wear resistant layer is formed in a padding or alloyed state. By this method, the wear resistant Ti-type member suitable, e.g. for exhaust valve for automobile engine can be obtained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To decrease the alloy element content in the surface layer of a casting to be formed with a plating layer so that the excellent plating layer having good adhesiveness and less defects such as pinholes can be formed by previously alloying pure Al, etc., to the surface of the above-mentioned casting by high- density heating energy. CONSTITUTION:The pure Al or the Al alloy contg. the Al at the ratio higher than in the Al alloy casting 1 is disposed as the alloying material 2 on the surface 1A in the plating layer forming part of the casting 1 by thermal spraying, etc., and the high-density heating energy 3 such as electron beam is impressed thereto from above to simultaneously melt the material 2 and the surface 1A on the lower side thereof. A molten pool 4 is rapidly solidified by the movement of the position where the energy 3 is impressed. The alloyed layer 5 which is decreased in the alloy element content, i.e., crystallized matter, etc., is fined in the crystallized matter and has the decreased casting defects is thus formed. The excellent plating layer having the good adhesiveness and the decreased defects is thereby formed.

In this case, the torch 3 is repeatedly reciprocated in the surface treating range (l) to keep the whole melt pool 5 n a molten state, hence an alloy having a uniform composition is formed in the surface treatment range (l), and an alloyed layer 6 without variance in the surface characteristics such as wear resistance and fatigue resistance is formed.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To form remelted chilling-treated layer without any bead crack by impressing high density energy on the surface layer of cast iron and removing the locally graphite crystallized part near the surface after chilling by rapidly solidifying the generated melted layer. CONSTITUTION:The high density energy 2 is impressed on at least a part of the cast iron member 1 by high density energy source 4, such as TIG arc, laser, etc., to melt, and in succession, the generated molten layer 3 is rapidly solidified by thermal conducting to the base material side. Then, the above high energy source 4 is reciprocately shifted and is heated so as to increase holding heat in the base material by treating for a somewhat longer time. In this way, the cooling and solidifying velocities in the molten layer 3 near the part of base material are quick, to form the chilled layer 5B. On the other hand, the cooling and solidifying velocities in the surface layer near the central part become slow and graphite is crystallized near the surface in the solidifying process. The solidified layer 5 composed of graphite crystal layer 5A and the chilled layer 5B formed in this way is machined and the above graphite crystal layer 5A is removed, to form the finishing face 6 having good chilled layer 5B surface.
