PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for large scale cultivation of Lawsonia intracellularis, and a non-toxic attenuated strain and a method for producing the same, and further a method for detecting an antibody against Lawsonia intracellularis using the obtained cultured cells, and a vaccine. SOLUTION: In the cultivation, cultured cells are inoculated with the Lawsonia intracellularis bacteria, and incubated in a reduced oxygen concentration and the infected cells are maintained in suspension to culture the cells. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for large scale cultivation of Lawsonia intracellularis and a non-toxic attenuated strain thereof and a production method thereof, furthermore, a method for detecting an antibody to L. intracellularis using the obtained cultured bacteria and an anti-L. intracellularis vaccine. SOLUTION: In this method, the cultured cells are cultured by inoculating the cells with L. intracellularis bacteria, incubating the cells in a reduced oxygen concentration and maintaining the infected cells in suspension. SOLUTION: Cultured cells are inoculated with Lawsonia intracellularis bacteria and incubated in a reduced oxygen concentration, and the infected cells are maintained in suspension and cultured.
