    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery in which a resistance rise is inhibited and an internal short circuit is prevented to achieve excellent charge-discharge cycle characteristics by preventing an electrolyte shortage in an electrode layer, preventing the occurrence of a gap, and allowing the accommodation of variations in cell thickness. SOLUTION: The nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery comprises a storage element including a positive electrode, a negative electrode comprising an active material containing an element which can be alloyed with lithium, and a separator containing an electrolyte, and the porosity of the separator decreases gradually with increasing distance from the negative electrode side toward the positive electrode side.     Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery capable of preventing deterioration of battery output and suppressing shortage of electrolytic solution. SOLUTION: The non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery 10 has a power generation element 17 having a unit battery layer in which a negative electrode 23 forming a negative electrode active material layer 12 containing a negative electrode active material on the surface of a current collector 11, an electrolyte layer containing a nonaqueous electrolyte, and a positive electrode 24 forming a positive electrode active material layer 15 containing a positive electrode active material on the surface of a current collector 14 are laminated in the order, arranged inside an outer package body 22. The battery 10 has an electrolyte retaining layer 26 to retain the electrolytic solution between the outermost layer of the power generation element 17 and the outer package body 22.
