Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery in which a resistance rise is inhibited and an internal short circuit is prevented to achieve excellent charge-discharge cycle characteristics by preventing an electrolyte shortage in an electrode layer, preventing the occurrence of a gap, and allowing the accommodation of variations in cell thickness. SOLUTION: The nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery comprises a storage element including a positive electrode, a negative electrode comprising an active material containing an element which can be alloyed with lithium, and a separator containing an electrolyte, and the porosity of the separator decreases gradually with increasing distance from the negative electrode side toward the positive electrode side.
