    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound in high yield, by heating an alcohol or aldehyde and ammonia in the presence of a catalyst, consisting of three metal components containing copper, Ni and a small amount of a platinum group element of group VIII metal added thereto and capable of exhibiting high activity and selectivity while removing water formed as a by-product. CONSTITUTION:An alcohol or aldehyde and ammonia are reacted in the presence of a catalyst prepared by adding a platinum group element of group VIII metal, e.g. Pt, Ni, etc., to copper and nickel (preferably at 1:9-9:1 molar ratio), preferably at about 0.001-0.1 molar ratio based on the total amount of the copper and nickel at 150-250 deg.C under atmospheric pressure - 5atm pressure (gauge pressure) while removing water formed by the reaction to give the aimed N- substituted amine, e.g. trilaurylamine, etc. EFFECT:The durability of the catalyst is increased to permit recovery and reuse thereof several times - tens of times. USE:An intermediate for rust inhibitors, surfactants, germicides, textile dyeing assistants and flexible bases, etc.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high-quality aliphatic tertiary amine which contains little non-amine components such as esters and alcohols, and has good hue, and a derivative from which gives no turbidity even after long term storage. SOLUTION: The amine is obtained by (i) reacting a molecule of an aliphatic primary alcohol with a molecule of dimethylamine, (ii) reacting two molecules of an aliphatic primary alcohol with a molecule of methylamine, or (iii) reacting three molecules of an aliphatic primary alcohol with a molecule of ammonia, to give a crude aliphatic tertiary amine, and adding an alkali to the obtained product, followed by distillation.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce corresponding various kinds of long-chain alkylnitriles by reacting an alcohol with ammonia. SOLUTION: A higher alcohol is reacted with ammonia under such conditions as to satisfy all of the following items (a) to (e). (a) The reaction is carried out in the presence of a copper transition metal element in the fourth period-the VII group platinum element catalyst (excepting Cr). (b) The reaction is carried out under atmospheric pressure to 100atm in the reaction system of the higher alcohol with ammonia. (c) The reaction is carried out at 100 deg.C to 250 deg.C. (d) The reaction is carried out while introducing an inert gas, hydrogen gas or a mixture thereof into the reaction system and removing produced water of the reaction out of the reaction system. (e) The reaction is carried out while keeping an amount of ammonia in a gas (discharge gas) excluding the produced water discharged out of the reaction system to 5-50vol% (based on the discharge gas).

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled substance, by reacting an alcohol or aldehyde with a primary amine in the presence of a catalyst, consisting of three metal components containing copper and nickel and further a small amount of a platinum group element of group VIII metal added thereto and capable of exhibiting high activity and selectivity under pressure while removing water. CONSTITUTION:An alcohol or aldehyde having a straight or branched chain or polyhydric alcohol is reacted with a primary amine in the presence of a catalyst, consisting of three metal components (preferably 1:9-9:1 molar ratio of copper to nickel and at 0.001-0.1 molar ratio of the platinum group element of group VIII metal to the total amount of the copper and nickel) and prepared by adding the platinum group metal catalyst, e.g. platinum, palladium, ruthenium, rhodium, etc., to the copper and nickel at 150-250 deg.C under atmospheric pressure - 5atm pressure (gauge pressure) removing water formed by the reaction to afford the aimed secondary amine. The primary amine is preferably present in a larger amount than the consumption of the alcohol or aldehyde in the system at all times.
