PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a damage reduction method by pests in maize cultivation.SOLUTION: Such a damage by pests in maize cultivation can be reduced by carrying out the steps of: A) plowing furrows in field; B) sowing maize in the furrow formed by step A); C) applying one or more selected from the following group of compounds (II), or C') applying one or more selected from the following group of compounds (I) and one or more selected from the following group of compounds (II), to the furrows; and D) closing the furrows. Compounds (I): a group consisting of clothianidin, thiamethoxam, imidacloprid and thiacloprid. Compounds (II): a group consisting of bifenthrin, bioresmethrin, deltamethrin, bioarethrin, ethofenplocks, fenpropathrin, cypermethrin, alpha-cypermethrin, zeta-cypermethrin, fenvolleylate, esffenvolleylate, cyfluthrin, beta-cyfluthrin, alpha-cypermethrin, toralomethrin, fluvalinate, permethrin, lambda-cyhalothrin, flucythrinate and defulthrin.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellent method for protecting corn.SOLUTION: The method for protecting corn by using granules containing clothianidin as an active ingredient includes: (A) a step of forming grooves in a field; (B) a step of sowing seeds of corn in the grooves; (C) a step of applying the granules containing clothianidin as an active ingredient in the grooves; and (D) a step of closing the grooves. As a result, excellent protecting effects are exhibited in the cultivation of corn.
