    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control system of an internal combustion engine for inhibiting unburned fuel components remaining in an exhaust gas passage from being discharged into the air in an engine stop. SOLUTION: The exhaust emission control system includes a catalyst for cleaning exhaust gas, a catalytic-activity judgement means, a fuel-supply stop means, and an air-supply means. The catalytic-activity judgement means makes judgement whether the catalyst is active or not, the fuel-supply stop means stops fuel supply to the internal combustion engine on request for engine stop. The air-supply means increases exhaust gas or the amount of air flowing into the catalyst by supplying air to the upstream of the catalyst, only when engine stop is requested and the catalytic-activity judgement means has made a judgement that the catalyst is activated.     Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent erroneous diagnosis, in relation to a device for diagnosing failure of an evaporative purge system provided in such constitution that evapo ration fuel (vapor) in an internal combustion engine is adsorbed on adsorbent in a canister, and adsorbed fuel is discharged (purge) into the intake system in the internal combustion engine to burn it under a specific operational condi tion. When it is a valve on the positive pressure side more than that of Y pa, practice flag is set to '1' (step 121), and then failure diagnosis is inhibited until the engine is restated later. Failure diagnosis is carried out at step 103 only when it is judged that inter-tank pressure is a value on the atmosphere pressure side more than Y Pa.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To lessen the air-fuel ratio fluctuation by deciding that the catalyst has been degraded, when the inversion frequency of the output signal from a downstream-side air-fuel ratio detection means 15 is higher than a specified frequency with the operational engine state being in a predetermined operational state. CONSTITUTION:When judging the degradation of catalyst, the rate of change in the air-fuel ratio correction factor FAF is decreased to make the rate of change in air-fuel ratio low, so as to cause reduction in the rate of change in the O2 storage in the catalyst. That is, since larger degradation in catalyst results in a decrease in the maximal content of O2, the time length in which the O2 storage amount in the catalyst becomes zero increases, so that the frequency with which the output signal from a downstream-side O2 sensor 15 exceeds a comparing voltage increases. Accordingly, if a ratio is taken between the inversion frequency of an upstream-side O2 sensor 13 and that of the downstream-side O2 sensor 15, it would be possible to decide a large degradation of the catalyst. This can lessen the fluctuation in the air-fuel ratio.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To detect the purge anomaly over the whole device by detecting the anomaly of the device on the basis of the output detection pressure of a pressure sensor installed midway in a vapor passage. CONSTITUTION:A fuel tank 11 communicates to a canister 13 through a vapor passage 12, and the canister 13 communicates to an intake passage 16 through a purge passage 14 having a purge control valve 15 midway. A pressure sensor 17 is installed midway in the vapor passage 12, and an anomaly detecting means 18 for detecting the anomaly of the device on the basis of the output detection pressure of the pressure sensor 17 is installed. The anomaly detecting means 18 detects the anomaly of the whole device including the anomaly of the vapor passage 12 on the basis of the output detection pressure of the pressure sensor 17 in the ordinary case and the output detection pressure of the pressure sensor 17 in the case where the purge control valve 15 is turned ON or OFF.

A delay means delays and processes the compared result of a first comparing means to shift the controlled air-fuel ratio of the output of the first air-fuel ratio sensor from a lean air fuel ratio to the the oretical air-fuel ratio. An air-fuel ratio adjusting means adjusts the air-fuel ratio of an engine. Thus,the fuel consumption and exhaust emission can be prevented from degradation.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To aim at improvement in a responsive speed ever so better, by installing each air-fuel ratio sensor at both upstream and downstream sides of a catalytic converter and at the time of compensating a delay time at the time of air-fuel ratio control by the sensor at the upstream side with output of the sensor at the downstream side, making a possibility that the delay time becomes more than the specified time limitable. CONSTITUTION:Each of air-fuel ratio sensors 13 and 15 is installed at both upstream and downstream sides of a catalytic converter in an exhaust system, and each output of these sensors 13 and 15 is compared with each of specified values VR1 and VR2 by comparing devices A1 and A2. According to the compared result to the comparing device A2, a delay time TDR delaying the compared result of the comparing device A1 is calculated by an operational device B, and when this is judged as being larger than the specified time TR2 by a comparing device C, the delay time TDR is subtracted as much as the specified value tR. And, at a delaying device E, the compared result of the comparing device A1 is delayed according to output of an adjusting device D, and an air-fuel ratio compensation value FAF is found by an operational device F on the basis of the compared result after delaying, then further this compensation value FAF is adjusted for increase or decrease by a varying device G on the basis of output of the comparing device C.
