Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface treated product of finely-powdered titanium oxide or finely-powdered zinc oxide, having excellent dispersibility and scarcely increasing viscosity even when mixed into a cosmetic or silicone oil slurry in a large amount in case of preparing them. SOLUTION: This product of the finely-powdered titanium oxide or the finely-powdered zinc oxide coated with a mixture of dimethicone and a dimethicone/methicone copolymer is obtained by using finely-powdered titanium oxide or finely-powdered zinc oxide having an average particle diameter of 5-100 nm as a base material, adding the mixture of the dimethicone and the dimethicone/methicone copolymer given by mixing them in a mass ratio of 10:1 to 10:5 to the base material, and coating surfaces of the finely-powdered titanium oxide or the finely-powdered zinc oxide composing the base material with the mixture of the dimethicone and the dimethicone/methicone copolymer in an amount of 10-30 mass% based on the base material. The silicone oil slurry is obtained by dispersing the product in a silicone oil. The cosmetic is obtained by being compounded of the slurry. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cosmetic having excellent touch, a homogeneous cosmetic coated film and a natural skin feeling. SOLUTION: The cosmetic is obtained by formulating a spherical titanium dioxide aggregate with an inorganic pigment. The spherical titanium dioxide aggregate is formed from small spherical particles of the titanium dioxide produced by using an autoclave and having 0.01-0.07 μm average primary particle diameter and has 0.1-3 μm apparent average particle diameter. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkylsilylated powder which is modified so as not to produce an unpleasant smell when mixed with cosmetics and by which a silicone oil slurry can be easily prepared. SOLUTION: The low smell alkylsilylated powder is obtained by mixing metal oxide particles having an average primary particle size of 1 nm to 100 μm with an alkylalkoxysilane having at least one 1-20C alkyl group and at least one alkoxy group in a lower alcohol, adding 5-10 times by mass of water based on the alkylalkoxysilane at a temperature of 1-100°C to hydrolyze the alkylalkoxysilane, and heating and evaporating the lower alcohol and water to coat the surface of the metal oxide particles with an alkylsilane having at least one 1-20C alkyl group in an amount of 1-30 mass% based on the metal oxide particles. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silica-covered particulate titanium oxide or silica-covered particulate zinc oxide which is excellent in the water dispersibility, and has a compatibility with a carboxyvinyl polymer, and also is not liable to color butylmethoxy dibenzoylmethane and besides solves the bad touch when blended to cosmetics. SOLUTION: The silica-covered particulate titanium oxide or silica-covered particulate zinc oxide comprises the base material of a particulate titanium oxide or particulate zinc oxide having an average particle diameter of 5-100 nm, and has the base material covered with silica of 15-40% by mass relative to the said base material, and also has such water dispersion that when viscosity of the aqueous dispersion prepared under a specific condition without using a dispersing agent is measured under a specific condition, the said viscosity is not more than 200 mPa s. SOLUTION: In dispersing an inorganic oxide to be selected from titanium oxide, zinc oxide, and cerium oxide which have a primary particle diameter of smaller than 100 nm into an oil phase containing a dispersant, the method of dispersing the inorganic oxide uses ceramic beads having a particle diameter of ≤0.1 mm as the medium and effects dispersion until the average dispersion particle diameter of the inorganic oxide comes to ≤80 nm in a sand grinder mill. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cosmetic containing as active ingredient fine-particle titanium dioxide highly compatible with oily phase and having high dispersibility and light resistance. SOLUTION: This cosmetic is obtained by formulating 1-80 wt.%, based on the whole cosmetic, of fine-particle titanium dioxide which is produced through an outline of the following process: a specific amount of a water-soluble aluminum compound is added to an aqueous suspension of titanium dioxide with a particle size of =80 deg.C and incorporated with a specific amount of a >=7C fatty acid or a water- soluble salt thereof; subsequently, the slurry pH is adjusted to a specified level followed by aging the slurry for >=30 min; finally, the pH is adjusted again, followed by performing filtration, washing, drying, and grinding operations. This cosmetic has excellent anti-suntan effect.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a fine particulate titanium dioxide coating compsn. excellent in fitness to an oil phase, dispersibility and light resistance by adding a specified amt. of a water-soluble aluminum salt to an aq. suspension of TiO2 having a specified particle diameter, adjusting the resultant system to a specified pH, heating it to a specified temp., adding a specified amt. of a fatty acid and carrying out adjustment to a specified pH, aging, further adjustment to a specified pH, filtration and treatment. SOLUTION: A water-soluble aluminum salt such as sodium aluminate is added to an aq. suspension of TiO2 that is a titania sol having =80 deg.C. A fatty acid having >=7 carbon atoms or its water-soluble salt such as sodium stearate is then added by 10-20 wt.% (expessed in terms of the fatty acid) based on the amt. of TiO2 and the system is adjusted to pH 7-9, aged for >=30 min, further adjusted to pH 6.5-7.5 and filtered. The resultant solid is washed, dried and comminuted.
