Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide systems and methods for cut-off reduction when recording media distributed at imprecise intervals.SOLUTION: A media recording system may be provided. The recording system may include features for reducing recording cut-off of a particular media event due to changes in start time and end time of what is scheduled to be recorded. The recording system may provide a user with an opportunity to select a program by e.g. selecting a listing, to have that program automatically recorded at a scheduled time for presentation to viewers. Changes in the schedule of programs may be compensated manually or automatically when the recording system receives information about actual or predicted time changes. In a manual mode, a user may adjust start time or end time based on time change information that is displayed.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for providing guidance to users looking for media.SOLUTION: The system and the method can be provided in bidirectional media guides such as program guides, web browsers, or other suitable bidirectional media guides. The method includes: a step of providing indicators of a plurality of media groups that are available to a user, while the media groups indicate the media that are available to the user without indicating any of contents, title and source of the media; a step of providing a plurality of media indicators associated with the media groups in response to the indication of a desire to access the media indicator associated with the group by the user, and providing the media associated with the media group by a plurality of different media sources; and a step of executing actions to the one or more different media sources in response to the indication of a desire to access the media by the user.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a program guide system which is appropriate for monitoring usage of advertisements displayed in an interactive television program guide.SOLUTION: Advertisement usage may be monitored by monitoring a time when advertisements are transmitted from a television distribution facility to a user television apparatus. Advertisement usage information may also be monitored by monitoring a time when advertisements are received by the user television apparatus. Advertisement usage information may also be monitored even while advertisements are displayed by a program guide. Comparatively less important data can be filtered from the collected advertisement usage data.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an interactive television program guide system and method. SOLUTION: An interactive television program guide system and method is provided. Time separators are displayed within lists of program listings to allow users to more easily view the program listings. On-screen arrows have their display characteristics changed according to user actions. Similar program listings are displayed only once when using search program listings. Users are provided with an opportunity to view channel information before setting channels as favorites. Information from local information services is provided in program guide display screens that are configurable by a main facility. Users are provided with an opportunity to centrally lock and unlock programs, and to bypass locks when desired. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for measuring of audience information of a program.SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a system and a method for measuring of audience information of a program. Systems and methods for providing to users audience information of interactive television applications are described. The present application describes a method for measuring audience information based on playbacks of a recorded program, the method comprising the steps of: receiving an indication of a playback of the recorded program; and updating audience information for the recorded program. A method is described that further comprises the steps of: receiving an indication for a user-identified action, in which such action controls how the recorded program is played back; executing the user-identified action in response to receiving the indication; and updating audience information based on the user-identified action.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an interactive television program guide system with a digital storage.SOLUTION: A program guide allows a user to define "super-programs" for playback of a sequence of stored programs or program segments. The program guide also gives a user the ability to store information associated with recorded programs in a directory in the digital storage device, providing easy access to program information. The program guide may also provide a global media library for indicating the programs stored on removable storage media used with the program guide. The program guide may also allow a user to manage and maintain a user media library for the user to do the same. Non-time-sensitive data associated with recorded programs may be stored in a way that allows the user to interact with the data on playback as if the program were being originally aired.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide systems and methods for providing supplemental content to on-demand media in an interactive television application.SOLUTION: Methods for providing supplemental content to on-demand media in an interactive television application comprise the steps of: receiving a request for on-demand media from a user; retrieving supplemental content related to the on-demand media by use of the interactive television application; providing the on-demand media in response to the request; and providing the supplemental content to the user while the user is watching or listening to the on-demand media.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide interactive media systems and methods for substituting pause-time content in place of a medium that has been paused. SOLUTION: A user can pause media such as real-time media, video-on-demand media, near video-on-demand media, or recorded media. When the user pauses real-time media or near video-on-demand media, the interactive media application can store the media. The interactive media application can also provide the user with the ability to rewind, resume play of, and fast-forward the media. The pause-time content can be audio or video media and may be an advertisement, trivia, program summaries or any other suitable pause-time content. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
