Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a program guide system which is appropriate for monitoring usage of advertisements displayed in an interactive television program guide.SOLUTION: Advertisement usage may be monitored by monitoring a time when advertisements are transmitted from a television distribution facility to a user television apparatus. Advertisement usage information may also be monitored by monitoring a time when advertisements are received by the user television apparatus. Advertisement usage information may also be monitored even while advertisements are displayed by a program guide. Comparatively less important data can be filtered from the collected advertisement usage data.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process and domestic video guide hardware by which a domestic viewer can interactively control a channel programming guide.SOLUTION: A system which is interactively controlled by a TV viewer remote control transmitter 35 displays, in response to the request of the viewer and on a viewer's display screen 33, explanatory data and a video clip relating to a program identified on a program guide. A tuner 17 receives a TV radio frequency signal or an optical transmission signal in a plurality of cable channels, and transmits a viewer utilizable signal of an arbitrary single channel selected from among the plurality of channels to a signal combiner. A computer 11 receives one of a plurality of control signals from the TV viewer remote control transmitter 35.

Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process and hardware by which a viewer may be informed of events that are available currently or will in the future be available. SOLUTION: A system interactively controlled by a TV viewer remote control transmitter displays current or future programming information superimposed over the normal programming displayed on any channel accessible to the viewer's display screen. Identification signal data are accessed and generated by the computer for durations defined in the identification signal data either automatically or in response to the TV viewer remote. Information signal data are accessed and generated by the computer in response to the TV viewer remote. A signal combiner superimposes the identification signal or the information signal over the viewer usable signal of any selected channel from the tuner. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an interactive television program guide system in which a user can direct a program guide to display a browsing display screen.SOLUTION: The browsing display screen comprises a list of current programs including a movable highlight region, a video window containing a television program to which the system is currently tuned, and a detailed description of the highlighted program listing. The user can position the highlight region using remote control cursor keys. The user can then synchronize the content of the video window with the highlighted program listing by pressing a select key or a channel up or down key. Even if the user changes channels repeatedly using the channel up and down keys, the contents of the video window and the highlighted program listings remain in synchronization.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an interactive program guide system and a method related to the same. SOLUTION: The interactive program guide is preferably implemented, by using a microprocessor-controlled set-top box that is coupled to the viewer's television set. The set-top box receives program schedule information and software from a head-end telecasting center. Preferably, program schedule information for the current day and for at least the following six days is stored in a memory inside the set-top box. The interactive program guide provides a display mode for allowing the viewer to apply a restrictive search selection criteria and a nonrestrictive sort attribute to the program schedule information.
