PURPOSE:To facilitate high-accuracy machining of a long and small dia. work using a normal lathe by fitting a cylindrical work guide, which is installed on a support plate fixed to a reciprocative table separably, on the work at its tip, and by allowing this work guide to move together with a turning tool. CONSTITUTION:One of the ends of a work W is grasped by a chuck 4 provided at the tip of spindle 3, and a reciprocative table 5 is moved until a collect 15 is fitted on the work W at its foremost part, whereafter the tip of the collect 15 is given an inside dia. the same as the outside dia. of the work W by rotating an adjusting nut 19. A tool T is fitted on a tool rest 10 followed by locational adjustment, and said reciprocative table 5 is moved toward the spindle stock. Now a work guide 12 supporting the work W moves along the axis of the work W together with the tool T, and the rear portion of the work W is cut by the tool T. Thus the work guide 12 precedes to the tool T, which should prevent deformation of the work W to be caused by the cutting resistance, to ensure that a small dia. shaft is turned well by a normal lathe.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a numerically controlled lathe with a guide bush capable of processing a work with high accuracy without need of a support device, such as an auxiliary guide. SOLUTION: In this numerically controlled lathe 100 having a headstock 110 which rotatably supports a main spindle 120, the guide bush 170 which is provided facing the headstock 110 and supports one edge of the rod-shaped work W extended from the main spindle 120, and a tool post 130 which has a tool T1 for processing the work W supported by the main spindle 120 and the guide bush 170, the first process range A which can move in the same direction as an axial line C of the main spindle, and processes the work W with the tool T1 attached to the tool post 130 is provided between the guide bush 170 and the main spindle 120 in the guide bush 170.
