When a sheet feed roller 5 is operated to perform a sheet feeding operation, a loop is formed in the uppermost sheet Sa. After formation of the loop, the movable wall 6 is moved to a regulation release position to remove the loop formed in the uppermost sheet Sa. After removal of the loop, the movable wall 6 is returned to a regulation position to raise the leading end of the uppermost sheet Sa so as to separate the uppermost sheet from the second and subsequent sheets.
