摘要:
A method of treating zinc sulfide transmissive bodies includes using the same metal layer to treat multiple transmissive bodies, catalyzing the recrystallization of the bodies to remove defects from the bodies and forming multispectral zinc sulfide. The metal layer is brought into contact with one of the transmissive bodies. The transmissive body and the metal layer are then subjected to elevated temperature and pressure. The metal layer may include any of a variety of suitable metals, such as platinum, cobalt, silver, nickel, and/or copper. The metal layer may be a foil that is wrapped around the transmissive body. Alternatively the metal layer may be a rigid metal piece, for example being machined to fit the shape of the transmissive bodies. The reuse of the metal layer to treat multiple transmissive bodies reduces the cost of treating the transmissive bodies.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sintered compact having a spinel structure which has stable translucency to be satisfactorily used for visible rays. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the spinel sintered compact having a composition of MgO-nAl 2 O 3 (1.05≤n≤1.30) and containing ≤20 ppm Si element is provided with a step for forming a formed body from spinel powder containing ≤50 ppm Si element and having ≥99.5 mass% purity, a first sintering step for sintering the formed body under vacuum at 1,500-1,700°C to form a sintered compact having ≥95% density and a second sintering step for pressure-sintering the sintered compact at 1,600-1,800°C. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a wavelength converting member, different from conventional methods; to provide the wavelength converting member obtained by the method; and to provide a light-emitting device using the wavelength converting member.SOLUTION: A method for producing a wavelength converting member comprises coating the surface of a light-transmitting ceramic with an activating agent, and then calcinating the light-transmitting ceramic at a high temperature to diffuse the activating agent coated on the surface into the light-transmitting ceramic. A wavelength converting member can be produced from a relatively easily available light-transmitting ceramic.
