PURPOSE:To obtain an image having high quality and high resolution with high sensitivity to an energy signal by reducing the metallic ions in a metallic chelate compd. thereby forming the recording image consisting of the reduced metal atoms in a recording medium. CONSTITUTION:The simplest constitution in which the monomolecular film or accumulated monomolecular film of a metallic chelate compd. 3 on a substrate is used to form a recording medium. If an active energy signal 6 of, for example, UV light or heat, etc. is irradiated to the recording medium, a metal 7 is deposited from the metallic chelate compd. in the irradiated part in the above-mentioned film and a recording image is formed. The metal 7 is ionized when the recording medium is exposed to a suitable oxidizing atmosphere and the erasing of the recorded image is possible when the medium is subjected to chelate reproduction in the case of the above-mentioned recording medium. The medium is thus usable as a reproducible recording medium.

PURPOSE:To obtain a recording medium easily recordable and erasable and good in discriminability, by converting a mixture of an org. transition metal complex having a characteristic convertiable into a glass state and a crystalline state at the same temp. and an org. copolymer, into domains in a film. CONSTITUTION:An org. solvent dissolves (A) the org. transition metal complex having a characteristic convertible into a glass state and a crystalline state at the same temp., having the shown formula, R being 1-12C alkyl, such as copper bis(1-p-n-alkylphenylbutan-1,3-diolate, and (B) an org. polymer, such as poly-2,2- bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane. A transparent base is coated with this soln. to give a film having domains serviceable as the intended recording medium. At the time of recording, this medium is irradiated with laser beams or the like in pulses to change the crytalline state and to execute recording by this change, and the record is erased by returning it to the transparent glass state through heat melting or the like.
