    SOLUTION: The optical disk playback apparatus is constituted of: an optical pickup 10: an RF amplifier 12 for generating a tracking error (TE) signal based on an electric signal from the optical pickup 10; a defect detection circuit 28 for detecting the presence or absence of a defect of an optical disk and outputting a DFCT signal showing the presence or absence of the defect; a switch 26 for outputting a hold signal when the defect is detected based on the DFCT signal; a driver 30 for controlling the operation of the optical pickup based on the output of the switch 26; a correction circuit 40 which extracts oscillating components of the optical pickup from the TE signal in response to the DFCT signal when the defect is detected and outputs a correction signal showing the oscillating components; and an adder circuit 50 for adding the correction signal from the correction circuit 40 to the hold signal.
