摘要:
The present invention is drawn to a media sheet, comprising a substrate and a porous ink-receiving layer deposited on the substrate. The porous ink-receiving layer can comprise inorganic metal or semi-metal oxide particulates bound by a polymeric binder, and the porous ink-receiving layer can further include an effective amount of a sulfur-containing compound that interacts with ozone upon exposure thereto.

In accordance with embodiments of the present invention, an ink-jet ink can comprise a dye and a liquid vehicle carrying the dye. The liquid vehicle can include a sulfonated aromatic compound present in the ink-jet ink at an effective concentration to cause improvement of ozone fastness of said ink-jet ink.

Anti-bronzing compounds are added to inkjet inks to prevent bronzing of the inks when printed on specialty quick-dry inkjet photographic media. These compounds inhibit bronzing by the proper buffering of the dyes relative to the media of interest.

A puddling additive comprising an anionic, polar group and a C6-C30 hydrocarbon tail for use in reducing puddling in an inkjet ink. The anionic, polar group is a carboxylate or phosphate group and the C6-C30 hydrocarbon tail is a saturated or unsaturated C6-C30 hydrocarbon chain. An inkjet ink comprises a puddling additive, a dye, and an ink vehicle. A method of reducing puddling in an inkjet ink is also disclosed. The method comprises adding the puddling additive to the inkjet ink.

An inkjet ink for printing onto a print medium is provided. The inkjet ink evidences minimal tail breakup and improved drop trajectory, thereby evidencing improved print quality. The minimal tail breakup and improved drop trajectory are achieved by adding at least one surface active additive to the ink to provide the ink with a surface tension of at least 35 dyne/cm and a contact angle (with an orifice plate comprising KAPTON, an aromatic polyimide) of about 35 to 65 degrees.

The present invention relates to ink-jet ink compositions that comprise macromolecular chromophores having functional groups covalently attached for water solubility. Moreover, the MMCs have polymer chains covalently attached to the pigments by nucleophilic substitution to provide enhanced smearfastness, enhanced print quality, improved bleed control, and improved resistance to water when applied to the media. These inks have good viscosity and surface tension, are more soluble in organic solvents and are, therefore, useful in ink-jet printing, including thermal ink jet printing, piezoelectric ink jet printing, and continuous ink jet printing.

The properties of ink-jet inks containing a colorant (pigment, macromolecular chromophore, or dye) are improved by adding thereto an additive, specifically, one or more polymers derived from unsaturated surfactants. The unsaturated surfactant(s) has at least one carbon-carbon double bond (C═C). The polymer may be simply an polymer of the unsaturated surfactant. Alternatively, the polymer may be co-polymerized with one or more vinyl monomers or one or more polymers based on the vinyl monomers may be mixed with the unsaturated surfactant polymer. The vinyl monomer(s) or polymer(s) are used to adjust or “tweak” the properties of the resultant polymer. For example, the more hydrophobic the polymer or the higher its molecular weight, then the greater the water-fastness afforded the ink-jet ink. The polymeric additive of the invention improves bleed control, water-fastness, and smear-fastness of ink-jet inks, particularly thermal ink-jet inks.
