摘要:
Method, system, and program product for port based authentication protocols where addresses are dynamically assigned within a network environment, and more particularly to port based authentication in the network environment, where connection information is captured and stored. This facilitates administrator access to information created as a result of protocol exchanges involved in dynamic address assignment, authentication, and connection.

A method and system to quickly redirect traffic from a server blade to different access switches that provide data communication to a network is presented. Each access switch has external ports directed upstream towards the network, and correlated internal ports directed downstream towards the server blade. The server blade has a primary interface associated with a first access switch and a secondary failover interface associated with a second access switch. In the event that the first access switch loses an upstream data signal or connection via one of its upstream external ports, a corresponding downstream internal port in the first access switch is disabled, thus causing the primary interface in the server blade to failover to the secondary failover interface and its associated second access switch.

A method and system for controlling a plurality of pipes in a computer system including at least one central system is disclosed. The pipes provide traffic from a plurality of distributed systems. The method and system include providing a first plurality of data packets from a pipe of the plurality of pipes to a fast path or a slow path during a time interval such that none of the first plurality of data packets is dropped. The first plurality of data packets arrive in a time interval. The fast path includes a fast storage, while the slow path includes a bulk storage. The method and system also include providing a second plurality of data packets from the fast storage or the bulk storage to the central system in a first in first out order during the time interval.

A programmable state machine is incorporated into the core of a network processor (NP) to monitor the utilization of different processing elements in the NP and to control the power state of each element as a function of past and predicted utilization. The state machine can be used to control a centralized power management control unit or to control a distributed power management unit where each processing element includes its own state machine. The function of the power management state machine can be implemented in any combination of software and/or hardwired logic, depending on the system design requirements. The monitoring and control are implemented through the use of a power management state change algorithm. The determination of the power state of a processing element accommodates interdependencies between the elements. It also makes adjustments in gain factors in response to actual performance and utilization of the network processor.

A method and apparatus for monitoring and control of a system is disclosed. The method and apparatus include providing a plurality of sensors, a table, and a network processor. The sensors monitor attributes of the system. The table includes a plurality of entries. Each of the entries indicates at least one action to be taken in response to a portion attributes having particular values. The network processor is coupled with the sensors and with the table. The network processor receives from the sensors a plurality of statuses for the attributes. The network processor further determines at least one entry of the entries to access based upon the statuses and accesses the at least one entry to determine a corresponding action.

A method and system is provided for tracking mobile devices combining packet processing technology with Global Positioning System (GPS) technology. A central network system comprising a packet processing subsystem receives transmitted GPS location data from a mobile device transmitting GPS location data, wherein the packet processing subsystem uses a table access scheme to process the GPS location data and produce responsive mapping data, and the central network processing system compares the mapping data to a map and identifies a corresponding map location. Embodiments may also correlate device identification data, tracking table entries, and/or billing zone charges. In some embodiments a look-up key is built responsive to the GPS location data and used to identify map locations. The table access scheme may be a key hashing scheme and, in particular, a longest prefix match type scheme.
