    Abstract: A memory device is configured as single chip to achieve routing control, bandwidth control, traffic monitoring, buffering, and access control of network functions. The memory device includes a search unit that includes a first memory unit and performs a search operation by searching, from the first memory unit, a piece of data corresponding to an input search key, a statistical information processing unit that includes a second memory unit that stores statistical information including the input search key, with which the piece of data has been successfully searched by the search unit, and an address of the piece of data in the first memory unit, and an arithmetic operation unit that updates the statistical information when the search unit successfully searches the pieces of data corresponding to the input search key.

    Abstract: A multi-path network for use in a bridge, switch, router, hub or the like, includes a plurality of network ports; a plurality of network elements; and a plurality of network links interconnecting the network elements and the network ports, for transporting data packets. Each network element has a fault monitor for detecting faults on the network links to which the network element is connected, a plurality of dynamically selectable output ports and output port selection mechanism. Each network element also being adapted to communicate the existence of a fault back to one or more other network elements so that network elements connected to the faulty network link can be bypassed, and each network element being adapted to update the output port selection mechanism when communication of the existence of a fault is received so that only those output ports which ensure the faulty network link is bypassed are dynamically selectable. Also, a method of managing faults in a multi-path network utilizes a similar methodology to insure that identified faults are avoided.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for network failover in digital substations are provided. One method includes receiving, by an intelligent electronic device (IED) from a process interface unit (PIU), in parallel a pre-configured data stream via a point-to point connection and one or more other data streams via an Ethernet network. The method further includes determining that at least one of the following failure conditions is satisfied: a frame in the pre-configured data stream is lost or delayed, quality of the data in the frame in the data stream is below a first threshold, period of the time associated with the data in the frame in the data stream is below a second threshold, or a health indicator associated with the PIU is below a third threshold. The method further allows identifying at least one redundant frame in the one or more other data streams. If the quality of data in redundant frame is satisfactory, the method proceeds to use the redundant frame for further processing.

    Abstract: A network device includes a first and a second control board, with each control board having a separate control plane and fabric plane. The network device is configured to establish an active control plane on the first control board and an active fabric plane on the second control board. The network device is configured to establish a standby fabric plane on the first control board and a standby control plane on the second control board. The network device is configured to detect a failure on the first control board or the second control board and switch the status of the control plane on the second control board from standby to active, when the failure is on the first control board, and switches the status of the fabric plane on the first control board from standby to active when the failure is on the second control board.
