摘要: In a method for reduction of a solid feedstock, such as a solid metal compound, in an electrolytic apparatus a portion of the feedstock is arranged in each of two or more electrolytic cells (50, 60, 70, 80). A molten salt is provided as an electrolyte in each cell. The molten salt is circulated from a molten salt reservoir (10) such that salt flows through each of the cells. Feedstock is reduced in each cell by applying a potential across electrodes in each cell, the potential being sufficient to cause reduction of the feedstock. The invention also provides an apparatus for implementing the method.

摘要: The method, apparatus and product relate to the electrochemical reduction of a solid feedstock (20) to produce a product. A container (2) is filled with a fused salt (6), and one or more anodes (14) contact the fused salt. A cathode (18) is loaded with feedstock and engages with a transport apparatus (22, 36, 40) which locates and moves the cathode past the anodes(s), while the cathode and the feedstock contact the fused salt. As the cathode moves past the anodes(s), a voltage applied between the cathode and the anode(s) electrochemically reduces the solid feedstock to form the product.

摘要: A communication and analysis system can manage data operations with a vehicle centric system. A vehicle that is in a communications link with a network can also manage its activities based on real-time, historical and predictive knowledge, without having this knowledge processing on-board. Such data processing includes the geo-spatial, internal functions and operator specific requirements. The rule based system also incorporates the use patterns of a specific vehicle, or a specific user. A use pattern can be transferred from one operator to another or be shared to assist with navigation and operations. A vehicle operator or vehicle multiple operators can share or upload information that can assist with efficient operations, including fuel conservation and time management. Use patterns can be assigned to geospatial regions and be used for comparative analysis for such activities as efficient operation, safe travel and navigation.

摘要: A pneumatic tire having an equatorial plane and a maximum section width is provided. The tire includes a tread portion having outer tread edges that define a tread arc therebetween, a pair of sidewall portions, a pair of bead portions each of which has a bead core, at least one carcass ply extending circumferentially about the tire from one bead portion to the other and wound outwardly about the bead cores to form a pair of turn-up portions that each terminate at a turn-up, and at least one belt provided between the tread portion and the at least one carcass ply. When the tire is inflated to its specified inflated pressure, the tread portion has a profile that includes a central arc, a pair of intermediate arcs each of which intersects opposite edges of the central arc at a first intersection point, and a pair of outer arcs each of which intersects a respective intermediate arc at a second intersection point. The arc length measured from the equatorial plane of the tire to at least one of the first intersection points is between about 20% and about 60% of one half of the tread arc of the tire, while the arc length measured from the equatorial plane of the tire to at least one of the second intersection points is between about 40% and about 80% of one half of the tread arc of the tire.

摘要: Evidence is presented that inflammation and injury involves activation of xanthine oxidoreductase (XOR) in the newly recruited mononuclear phagocytes (MNP). XOR has been shown to be increased predominantly in the MNP that increase rapidly in the lungs of rats that develop acute lung injury (ALI) following intratracheal cytokine insufflation. XOR was recovered from the MNP largely converted to its oxygen radical generating, reversible O-form, and alveolar MNP exhibited increased oxidative stress as evidenced by increased nitrotyrosine staining. Cytokine insufflation also increased alveolar cell apoptosis. A functional role for XOR in cytokine induced inflammation was demonstrated. Tungsten and allopurinol decreased MNP XOR induction, nitrotyrosine staining, inflammatory cell infiltration, and alveolar cell apoptosis. Transfer of control or allopurinol treated MNP into rat lungs and confirmed a specific role for MNP XOR in promoting lung inflammation. These data indicate that XOR can contribute to lung inflammation by its expression and conversion in a highly mobile inflammatory cell population.
