    摘要: A system and methods for x-ray backscatter reverse engineering of structures. One embodiment includes a plurality of articulated arms attached to a movable base. Another embodiment includes a single counterweighted arm attached to a movable base. The arms include x-ray detectors. At least one x-ray source, which may be mounted on the arm(s), emits x-rays, which are backscattered off the surfaces and objects of interest and captured by the detectors to generate images of hidden objects. The present system provides improved speed and resolution over prior art systems. The system has a field-of-view and effective scanning range versatile enough to work in various orientations and in environments of various sizes. In certain embodiments the system is compact and lightweight so that it can be easily transported and used within confined spaces or in environments where weight is a consideration, such as inside or underneath aircraft. The system is also pointable and adaptable.

    摘要: A portable computer system including wireless communication functionality and global geographic positioning functionality includes a processor coupled to a wireless module, and a global positioning unit coupled to the wireless module and the processor. The wireless module may communicate with a wireless network via a wireless connection. The global positioning unit may be configured to receive geographic location information and to determine a current geographic location of the portable computer system based upon the received geographic location information. The processor may execute system software that may be configured to reconfigure system configuration settings such as security and authentication settings, and system clock settings, for example, dependent upon changes in the current geographic location information. In addition, an authenticated administrative level user may send one or more commands to the wireless module. The commands may cause a system storage to be made unreadable.

The processor may retrieve at least a portion of the information from the storage and send the retrieved information to a destination via email, for example, in response to a request by the requesting user for the information.

A stem of 38-inches rises from the center of the base and projects perpendicular to the base plane. (Thirty two) 32 inches above the base are two tubular pieces which project 4 inches on either side of the stem. These branches each hold an oval plate of about 6 inches long. The tips of these ovals point upwards and are recessed in the middle with a telephone-jack-type housing. Two elastic telephone-type cords of about 10-feet long anchor from the oval plate to the remote controls being secured. The remote controls rest on the ovals when they are not in use. This device as described in this abstract, the concert of elements to function in like manner, is the invention of William T. Edwards.
