Abstract: A method for operating a controller for a microgrid includes obtaining a set of parameter data characterizing one or more regulation curves of one or more national grid codes. The one or more regulation curves relate to a set of functional variables for point of common coupling (PCC) functions performed by the controller. The method further includes configuring messages to a plurality of distributed energy resources (DERs) interconnected to the PCC. The messages are configured for reading input data from registers of each DER. The method further includes performing the PCC functions to control the microgrid according to at least one of the one or more regulations curves, based on a subset of the input data from each DER that relates to the set of functional variables.

Abstract: A method of handling one or more errors in a microgrid includes measuring an attribute of a device within the microgrid for a measurement cycle and comparing the measured attribute of the device with a predetermined threshold attribute value. The presence of an error associated with the device is detected based on the comparison of the measured attribute with the predetermined threshold attribute value. An error signal is created that includes a numerical sequence having at least three digits, the numerical sequence identifying the measured attribute and the device within the microgrid.

Abstract: A method of monitoring a microgrid includes receiving a plurality of inputs, using a state machine to determine an output based on the plurality of inputs, and outputting a control signal based on the output. The plurality of inputs include a microgrid-side voltage measurement and a microgrid-side frequency measurement. The control signal is configured to control operation of the microgrid at a point of common coupling between the microgrid and a utility grid.

Abstract: A system and method for detecting high impedance faults (HIFs) in an electrical distribution system may include obtaining a first current signal of a first electrical conductor, determining, based on a time period, a first moving window for the first current signal and a second moving window for a second current signal, determining a first instantaneous phase of the first moving window and a second instantaneous phase of the second moving window, determining a first frequency spectrum and a second frequency spectrum based on the first instantaneous phase and second instantaneous phase respectively, determining an error spectrum corresponding to a difference between points of the first frequency spectrum and the second frequency spectrum respectively, generating an error index based on the error spectrum, and identifying a trigger event at the first electrical conductor based on a comparison between the error index and a reference threshold.
