Abstract: A method for recovering missing phase measurement unit (PMU) measurements from a plurality of PMUs is provided. The method comprises: receiving a plurality of obtained PMU measurements from the plurality of PMUs; populating a PMU dataset based on the plurality of obtained PMU measurements; determining a plurality of missing entries within the PMU dataset, wherein each of the plurality of missing entries indicates a missing PMU measurement within the PMU dataset at a particular time; determining a plurality of substitute entries for the plurality of missing entries based on an optimization algorithm that determines differences associated with a missing entry, of the plurality of missing entries, and a first set of PMU measurements, of the plurality of obtained PMU measurements, that are taken immediately prior to the missing entry; and inserting the plurality of substitute entries into the PMU dataset to generate a new PMU dataset.

Abstract: A method for determining whether a power system is encountering a malicious attack is provided. The method comprises: receiving a plurality of first phasor measurement unit (PMU) measurements from a plurality of PMUs of the power system; determining a plurality of expected PMU measurements associated with a future time period based on an optimization algorithm that uses differences between a plurality of consecutive predictive entries and the plurality of first PMU measurements; receiving, from the plurality of PMUs, a plurality of second PMU measurements associated with the future time period; determining whether the power system is encountering the malicious attack based on comparing the plurality of expected PMU measurements with the plurality of second PMU measurements; and executing an action based on whether the power system is encountering the malicious attack.

Abstract: A system and method for detecting high impedance faults (HIFs) in an electrical distribution system may include obtaining a first current signal of a first electrical conductor, determining, based on a time period, a first moving window for the first current signal and a second moving window for a second current signal, determining a first instantaneous phase of the first moving window and a second instantaneous phase of the second moving window, determining a first frequency spectrum and a second frequency spectrum based on the first instantaneous phase and second instantaneous phase respectively, determining an error spectrum corresponding to a difference between points of the first frequency spectrum and the second frequency spectrum respectively, generating an error index based on the error spectrum, and identifying a trigger event at the first electrical conductor based on a comparison between the error index and a reference threshold.

Abstract: Systems, methods, techniques and apparatuses of power network control are disclosed. One exemplary embodiment is a power network comprising a plurality of zones each including a plurality of measurement devices structured to measure electrical characteristics of the corresponding zone, a zone controller structured to receive measurements from the plurality of measurement devices, a distributed energy resource (DER), and a load. Each zone controller is structured to receive a set of local measurements from the plurality of measurement devices of the corresponding zone, calculate a sensitivity matrix using the received set of local measurements, determine whether a voltage violation has occurred in the corresponding zone, determine a DER set point using the received set of local measurements in response to determining the voltage violation has occurred in the corresponding zone, and transmit the DER set point to the DER.
