Abstract: The present invention provides a lubricating oil additive, including: a molybdenum compound (A) represented by the following general formula (1); and a sulfur-based composition (B) containing a sulfur-based compound (b-1) represented by the following general formula (2) and at least one kind of sulfur-based compound (b-2) represented by the following general formula (3) or (4), and a lubricating oil composition containing the additive. In the formula (1), R1 to R4 each represent alkyl groups having 6 to 18 carbon atoms, the groups being identical to or different from each other, and X1 to X4 each independently represent an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom. In the formula (2), R5 and R6 each represent alkyl groups having 3 to 24 carbon atoms, the groups being identical to or different from each other, and “a” and “b” each represent a number from 1 to 5. In the formulae (3) and (4), R7 to R10 each represent alkylene groups having 1 to 28 carbon atoms, the groups being identical to or different from each other, R11 and R12 each independently represent a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, and “c” and “d” each independently represent a number from 1 to 8, provided that at least one of R11 or R12 represents an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms.

Abstract: A fuel-saving-type engine oil composition is provided that exhibits a satisfactory friction-reducing effect in a low-viscosity engine oil without being constrained by, for example, high temperatures, low temperatures, low loads, or high loads. The engine oil composition includes: an engine oil having a low-temperature viscosity of from 0 to 10 in SAE viscosity grades and a high-temperature viscosity of from 4 to 20 in the SAE viscosity grades; and a molybdenum compound (A) represented by the following general formula (1): where R1 to R4 each independently represent a hydrocarbon group having 4 to 18 carbon atoms, and not all of R1 to R4 represent the same group, and when R1 and R2 represent the same group, R3 and R4 do not represent the same group, and X1 to X4 each independently represent a sulfur atom or an oxygen atom.

Abstract: A lubricating composition including: a base oil, a lubricant additive composition including, as a component (A), an organic molybdenum compound of the formula (1) described in the specification, and as a component (B), an amine compound of the formula (2) described in the specification, and a specific metal-based cleaner, wherein a content of the component (B) is 2.9 to 18.6 parts by mass relative to 100 parts by mass of molybdenum atoms of the component (A), and a content of the metal-based cleaner is 0.1% to 10% by mass relative to a total amount of the lubricating composition, wherein the lubricating composition does not include tetraalkyl thiuram disulphide, and wherein the component (A) in terms of the amount of molybdenum atoms is 400 to 1200 ppm by mass relative to a total amount of the lubricating composition.

In the formulae (3) and (4), R8 to R11 each represent alkylene groups having 1 to 28 carbon atoms, the groups being identical to or different from each other, R12 and R13 each independently represent a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, and “b” and “c” each independently represent a number from 1 to 8, provided that at least one of R12 or R13 represents an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms.
