摘要: An object of the present invention is to provide a lubricant base oil for power transmission (in particular, a lubricant base oil for traction drives) having a high traction coefficient and a high flash point. The present invention relates to a lubricant base oil for power transmission comprising an alicyclic dicarboxylic acid diester compound represented by general formula (1): wherein R1 to R5 are the same or different, and each represents hydrogen or linear or branched C1-4 alkyl, and two R1, two R2, two R3, two R4, and two R5 may respectively be the same or different; and ring A is wherein R represents C1-3 alkyl, and n represents 0, 1, or 2; when n represents 2, R may be the same or different.

摘要: Methods are provided for lubricating oxygenated diamond-like carbon surfaces to reduce friction while reducing or minimizing wear on the surface. A diamond-like carbon surface layer having a surface ratio of oxygen to carbon of 1:15 or more can be lubricated using a lubricant oil that includes a molybdenum-based friction modifier additive, a tungsten-based friction modifier additive, or a combination thereof. The Mo-based friction modifier (and/or other friction modifier based on a Group VI metal) can be selected based on the Gibbs free energy of adsorption (ΔG) for the friction modifier on an oxygenated diamond-like carbon surface. Use of a Group VI metal-based friction modifier having a ΔG of adsorption with a sufficiently large magnitude can reduce friction at the surface of the oxygenated diamond-like carbon while causing a reduced or minimized amount of wear during lubrication.

摘要: Provided is a vacuum pump oil which contains a mineral oil (A) having a temperature gradient Δ|η*| of complex viscosity between two points of t (° C.) and t−10(° C.) (where −15≤t≤−10), as measured using a rotary rheometer at an angular velocity of 6.3 rad/s, of 10 Pa·s/° C. or less, and one or more compounds selected from a phenol-based compound (B) and an amine-based compound (C), and which has a viscosity index of less than 160. The vacuum pump oil has a good ultimate vacuum degree and is excellent in water separability, oxidation stability and shear stability, and is therefore applicable to various applications.

摘要: This disclosure relates to cold cranking simulator viscosity (“CCSV”) boosting base stocks that allow flexibility for engine oil formulations to meet both high and low temperature viscosity requirements while maximizing fuel efficiency. The CCSV-boosting base stocks can include C28-C60 hydrocarbon materials, linear esters, tertiary amides, dialkyl carbonates, aromatic alcohols, and aromatic ethers. This disclosure also relates to lubricating oil formulations containing the CCSV-boosting base stocks, and a method for improving fuel efficiency in an engine by using as the engine oil a lubricating oil formulation containing one or more of the CCSV-boosting base stocks and/or cobase stocks.

摘要: A method for improving wear control in an engine or other mechanical component lubricated with a lubricating oil by using as the lubricating oil a formulated oil. The formulated oil has a composition including a lubricating oil base stock as a major component, and encapsulated boron-containing microscale particles, as a minor component. The minor component preferably contains no metal or sulfur, and preferably no phosphorus. The encapsulated boron-containing microscale particles include an encapsulating material and a boron-containing compound encapsulated by the encapsulating material. The boron-containing compound is a boron oxide, a boric acid, or mixtures thereof. The encapsulating material is a carboxylic acid selected from an aliphatic carboxylic acid, a cycloaliphatic carboxylic acid, an aromatic carboxylic acid, and mixtures thereof. The lubricating oils are useful in internal combustion engines.

摘要: A universal synthetic water displacement multi-purpose penetrating lubricant product-by-process with the capacity to protect metal surfaces against corrosion, with galvanic and electrolysis protection, while providing excellent lubrication properties. The lubricant actively penetrates the crystalline surface of the metal while exhibiting extreme pressure lubrication, non-migrating with lasting protection. The lubricant exhibits dielectric strength of over 14,000 volts, at the same time cleaning electrical contacts while reducing resistance and associated heat. A preferred embodiment comprises polymerized alpha-olefins, K-1 kerosene, and at least one base oil selected from the base oil group consisting of hydroisomerized high base oils and HT severe hydro-cracked base oils. Various combinations of other optional ingredients are also disclosed.
