A pair of end caps 22 is provided, each end cap 22 having a central openings 28 and a peripheral recess 24 for receiving the end edges 18 of the jacket 16 in light-tight relation. A core plug 34 is provided for each end cap 22 which is adapted, when pressed through the central opening 28 into the tubular core 16 to an assembled position, to press and hold the end edges 18 of the jacket 16 into the recesses 24 of the end caps 22 in light-tight relation. Core plugs 34, moreover, holds the end caps 22 against the end of core 12.

The enclosure comprises a flexible opaque bag with opposite sidewalls extending between opposing rearward and forward portions and opposing upper and lower portions. A shallow neck portion projects from the forward portion to an end thereof defining an exit slot for dispensing the web material. A collar fits tightly inside each core end, with an annular flange thereon facing axially outward. An annular ring is attachable to each collar in spaced, inward-facing relation to the flange. The roll is first positioned in the bag, through its closable opening, so that the web material extends into the neck portion and out through the exit slot, and so that a central portion of the collar at each core end projects outwardly through the adjacent sidewall aperture, with its flange left inside the sidewall and facing an annular portion thereof surrounding the aperture. The annular ring is then attached to the outwardly projecting portion of the collar in closely spaced, inward-facing relation to the sidewall annular portion, which is thus loosely trapped between the flange and the ring. A spool for photographic film has a generally cylindrical core with flanges at the end portions of the core. A slot through the core receives an end portion of the film that is to be wound onto the spool. Hooks in the slot are engaged with the film through apertures in the film for attaching of the film to the spool. In order to avoid locking of two spools together during bulk handling, as can occur when a flange of one spool enters the slot of another spool, the outer edge of one wall defining the slot is chamfered and generally V-shaped. The edge of the wall forms a large obtuse angle and is substantially aligned with the tip ends of the hooks so that the chamfered wall and the tip ends prevent a spool flange from becoming locked in the slot of another spool.

A tray and dispenser for holding and dispensing individual film packets from a stack of film packets provided in a tray. The tray comprises a bottom wall, an first end wall, a second end wall, and two substantially parallel side walls. The side and end walls extend upwardly from the bottom wall and terminate in an upper rim to define an open top and a recess for receiving a stack of film packets. The second end wall is provided with a support surface for supporting a stack of film packets placed in the recess when the tray is placed in the vertical position. The bottom wall of the tray is provided with ribs for spacing the stack of film packets a predetermined distance from the surface of the bottom wall and forming a rear space behind the bottom packet. The second end wall is also provided with an access opening for allowing access to the packet disposed on the bottom of the stack of film packets when the tray is placed in the substantial vertical position. The dispenser comprises a shell support structure which forms an internal chamber for receiving at least the lower portion of the tray and holding the tray in a substantially vertical position. A stripping member is provided for removing in seriatim the film packets from the recess in the tray. The stripper includes a stripper member having a configuration for insertion into the access opening in the bottom end wall and the rear space of the tray for removing the bottom packet.
