Abstract: A system can configure a luminaire for providing illumination of a selected color temperature, a selected lumen output, or a selected photometric distribution. The luminaire can comprise at least two light sources that have different illumination characteristics, for example different color temperatures, different lumen outputs, or different photometric distributions. The system can configure the luminaire to operate a first of the two light sources, a second of the two light sources, or both of the light sources based on an input. When the luminaire is configured to operate both of the light sources, the luminaire can produce illumination having a color temperature, a lumen output, or a photometric distribution that is different than either of the two light sources.

Abstract: A lighting system can comprise a light emitting diode that emits light, an optic mounted to process the emitted light, and an aperture disposed on the light-emitting side of the optic. The optic can comprise a cavity that receives the light. A portion of the received light can pass through a sidewall of the cavity, while another portion passes through a bottom of the cavity and out a front of the optic. The optic can comprise curved sides that receive the light passing through the cavity sidewall and reflect that light through the front of the optic. This reflection can condense the light to form a light beam having a beam waist. The beam waist can provide an annular separation or a radial gap between the beam of light and the aperture, with the separation providing clearance to avoid interference with the light beam.

Abstract: A light emitting diode module comprises a bulb, a body attached to the bulb, and a base attached to the body. The base comprises a receptacle configured to receive an electrical connector and the body comprises at least one light emitting diode. The body can include a power supply that controls the delivery of power to the light emitting diode. One or more tabs can extend from the base and can secure the electrical connector to the module when the electrical connector is attached to the receptacle. The base can also include a sidewall that is flexible and that can be extended or contracted to meet the dimensions or needs of a luminaire.

Abstract: A light emitting diode can emit light along an axis. An optic can be positioned to direct the emitted light off of the axis. The optic can comprise a base and a projection that rises from the base towards the light emitting diode. The projection can comprise a cavity that is oriented to receive the light emitted by the light emitting diode. The cavity can be slanted relative to the axis of the light emitting diode. A convex surface disposed at the bottom of the cavity can condense, focus, or collimate light. The projection can further comprise sides that totally internally reflect light.

Abstract: A system can comprise tabs and notches or a twist-and-lock mount for detachably mounting components adjacent a light emitting diode that is utilized for illumination, for example in a luminaire. Representative mounted components can include protective covers and optics for managing light emitted by the light emitting diode. The tabs and notches can be located rear of an aperture in a recessed lighting fixture or in a cover of a luminaire, for example. That cover, or another cover that may not utilize a releasable mount, can extend circumferentially about a periphery of a light emitting diode to cover and protect wiring for the light emitting diode and to hide the wiring from view by people occupying an illuminated space.
