Abstract: Disclosed herein are a method, an apparatus and a storage medium for performing encoding/decoding on an image using a subpicture. A picture may be partitioned into various units such as subpictures and slices, and various syntax elements and structures may be used to specify the units. In an embodiment, there is a method for configuring a reference picture list for motion compensation in the case where the location of a reference subpicture to be referred to for motion compensation is different from the location of a target subpicture. Further, in an embodiment, there is provided a method for providing the configuration of a reference picture list and an override on the number of activated reference indexes.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are a method, an apparatus, and a storage medium for image encoding/decoding using geometric partitioning. Partitioning of a block may be determined using directionality in a block. A straight line is detected in the block, some of partitioning methods available for the block are excluded depending on the type of the detected straight line, and only the remaining partitioning methods are limited to a target of selection for encoding and/or decoding on the target block. Abstract: A method and apparatus for image compression using a latent variable are provided. The multiple components of the latent variable may be sorted in order of importance. Through sorting, when the feature information of only some of the multiple components is used, the quality of a reconstructed image may be improved. In order to generate a latent variable, the components of which are sorted in order of importance, learning may be performed in various manners. Also, less important information may be eliminated from the latent variable, and processing, such as quantization, may be applied to the latent variable. Through elimination and processing, the amount of data for the latent variable may be reduced.

A decoding method for a feature map includes reconstructing a feature frame by performing decoding on encoded information, and reconstructing feature maps using the feature frame. A feature frame is configured using feature maps, and compression using a video compression codec or a deep learning-based image compression method is applied to the feature frame.
