THE INVENTION RELATED TO SHAPED ARTICLES ON THE BASIC OF POLYVINYL CHLORIDE HAVING A HIGH TRANSPARENCY, HIGH THERMAL STABILITY UNDER LOAD, GOOD DEEP DRAWING PROPERTIES AND A HIGH IMPACT STRENGTH. THE SHAPED AARTICLES CONSIST MAINLY OF COPOLYMER OF PERDOMINANT PROPORTIONS OF VINYL CHLORIDE AND CERTIAN N-SUBSTITUTED MALEIC ACID IMIDES, SMALLER PROPORTION OF KNOWN ELASTOMERS ON THE BASIC OF BUTADIENE AND STYRENE, AND OPTIONALLY, CERTAIN PROPORTIONS OF A GRAFT COPOLYMER OF VINYL CHLORIDE ON A BUTADIENE ELASTOMER.

EMULSION GRAFT POLYMERS ON THE BASIS OF VINYL CHLORIDE CONTAINING SPECIFIC AMOUNTS OF KNOWN ELASTOMER COMPONENTS ARE USED FOR THE MANUFACTUE OF PLASTICIZER-FREE FILMS, SHEETS OR SHAPED ARTICLES WHICH UNDERGO A PERMANENT CHANGE IN COLOR BY DEFORMATION, PREFERABLY BEYOND THE YIELD POINT. THE FILMS ARE ESPECIALLY SUITABLE FOR LABELING AND DECORATING PURPOSES.
Abstract:
THE PRESENT INVENTION RELATES TO RIGID SHEETS ON THE BASIS OF POLYVINYL CHLORIDE, PLASTOMERS AND ELASTOMERS, SAID SHEETS BEING OBTAINED BY A CALENDERING PROCESS. THE MATERIAL COMPRISES (A) AN EMULSION HOMO- OR COPOLYMER OF VINYL CHLORIDE, (B) A SUSPENSION POLYMER OF VINYL CHLORIDE, (C) A GRAFT COPOLYMER OF VINYL CHLORIDE BASED ON A CROSS-LINKED COPOLYMER OF A CONJUGATED DIENE AND ACRYLOOR METHACRYLONITRILE, AND EVENTUALLY (D) A CROSS-LINKED ELASTOMERIC COPOLYMER SIMILAR TO THE BASIC COPOLYMER OF (C). THE SHEETS ACCORDING TO THE INVENTION HAVE AN IMPROVED IMPACT RESISTANCE AND DEEP-DRAWING PROPERTIES IN COMBINATION WITH A GOOD TRANSPARENCY AND GOOD OTHER PHYSICAL CONSTANTS.
Abstract:
A polymer mixture comprises (a) 50 to 70% by weight of an emulsion homopolymer or copolymer of vinyl chloride having a K value of 58 to 72; (b) 10 to 30% of a suspension polymer of vinyl chloride having a K value of 50 to 65; and (c) 0.5 to 40% of a graft copolymer of vinyl chloride which has been prepared by the emulsion polymerization technique and in which the vinyl chloride is grafted on a cross-linked copolymer of a conjugated diene and acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile having a gel content of more than 90%, the graft copolymer being insoluble in organic solvents; the percentages being calculated on the total weight of the mixture. The mixture may also contain (d) 1 to 10% of a cross-linked elastomeric copolymer prepared by emulsion polymerization of a conjugated diene and acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile, said copolymer being insoluble in organic solvents and having a gel content of more than 80%. Other possible ingredients of the mixture are a stabilizer comprising (i) diphenyl thiourea or alpha-phenyl indole, epoxidized natural oils and an alkalizing water-soluble salt or (ii) an epoxy compound, an organo tin compound, a heavy metal salt of a fatty acid or a mixture of aminocrotonic acid esters of fatty alcohols; and a wax, fatty acid ester or polyolefin as lubricating agent. In the example, the mixture comprises (a) an emulsion polymerized vinyl chloride homopolymer, (b) a suspension polymerized vinyl chloride homopolymer, (c) a graft polymer of vinyl chloride on a cross-linked butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer, (d) a butadiene-acrylonitrile elastomer, diphenyl thiourea, di-n-octyl tin-bis-thiogly-collic acid octyl ester, epoxidized soybean oil and montan wax.
