摘要： An optical head equipped with a tracking error detector to obtain a tracking error signal for tracking servo. The detector includes a photodetector having a light-detecting region on which a light spot with a predetermined diameter is formed by a reflected light beam from a recording medium. The region is divided by a first division line into two which are further divided by second and third division lines so as to form first to fourth subregions, the first and second subregions being adjacent to each other with the first division line being interposed therebetween, the third subregion being adjacent to the first subregion, and the fourth subregion being adjacent to the second subregion. The separation between the second and third division lines is determined so that the sum of the light receiving quantities of the first and fourth subregions is substantially equal to the sum of the light receiving quantities of the second and third subregions when the objective lens is shifted from its neutral position. Electric signals produced in correspondance with the light receiving quantities are supplied to a differential amplifier to take a difference between a sum signal of the signals due to the first and fourth subregions and a sum signal of the signals due to the second and third subregions.

摘要： A magneto-optical data recording and reproducing device for storing data in a data memory medium which applies modulation to a plane of polarization, erasing data therefrom and reproducing data stored therein, comprises a light source for emitting a light beam with linear polarization, a light spot forming means for condensing the light beam emitted from the light source and forming a light spot on the data memory medium, a beam splitting means, located between the light source and the light spot forming means, to which reflected light beams from the data memory medium are applied and splitted, a beam detecting prism, to which light beams splitted by the beam splitting means are applied, providing the polarizing function that a predetermined first pencil of light beam with linear polarization is reflected while a second pencil of light beam with linear polarization crossing the first pencil at right angles is transmitted, a beam splitting prism, being located near or adhered to the beam detecting prism, for splitting the second pencil of light beam with linear polarization transmitted through the beam detecting prism into two subpencils with approximately the same quantity of light, reflecting the splitted subpencils and then re-allying them to the beam detecting prism to form two optical axes extending along approximately the same direction as that of the first pencil of light beam with linear polarization, at least one or more photo detector to which a plurality of light beams having passed through the beam detecting prism and the beam splitting prism are applied, a data retrieval unit for retrieving data in the data memory medium according to output of the photo detector, a tracking servo unit to which a tracking error signal picked up by the output of the beam detector is applied, and a driving means for driving at least the light spot forming means in response to an output signal from the tracking servo unit.

摘要： When the tilt of an optical disk is detected using a light source of an optical head, the optical head cannot be simplified enough and an optical-disk tilt cannot be detected adequately. The optical head includes: an LED chip; a light-converging element that converges the light which is emitted from the LED chip upon an optical disk; a light-converging element driving means which drives the light-converging element; and a sensor which detects a tilt or a positional shift of the optical disk. In the sensor, the LED chip is placed on a semiconductor substrate which is provided with a plurality of light-receiving chips; the light emitted from the LED chip irradiates the optical disk; the light which is reflected from the optical disk is received by the plurality of light-receiving chips; and based upon the quantity of light which is received at the plurality of light-receiving chips, a tilt or a positional shift of the optical disk is detected.

摘要： An optical head is driven in a tracking direction with respect to a rotating optical disc. The optical head includes a light source, an optical block, a condenser shifter, and a rotating mechanism. The light source is used to read and write data from/on the optical disc. The optical block supports the light source. The condenser shifter includes a condenser, a movable body, a base, a focus direction drive mechanism and a tracking direction drive mechanism. The condenser focuses light, emitted from the light source, toward the optical disc. The movable body supports the condenser. The base supports the movable body elastically such that the movable body is able to shift in a focus direction and in the tracking direction. The focus and tracking direction drive mechanisms are provided to shift the movable body in the focus and tracking directions, respectively. The rotating mechanism rotates the condenser shifter around a predetermined axis with respect to the optical block on at least one of a first plane, which is parallel to the tracking direction and perpendicular to the optical disc, and a second plane, which is perpendicular to the tracking direction.

摘要： An information recording/reproducing apparatus includes a focusing optical system for focusing light from a light source on an information recording medium as a light spot and an error signal generation system for generating an error signal that represents the positional deviation between an information track and the light spot on the information recording medium from the light reflected by the information recording medium. The apparatus further includes a tilt measurement system for measuring the amount of relative inclination between the focusing optical system and the information recording medium and an offset application system for performing off-track of the light spot by applying an electric offset corresponding to the measured amount of inclination to the error signal. Since the electric offset that corresponds to the amount of inclination is added directly to the error signal, the apparatus does not require a complicated algorithm and can improve the recording and reproduction characteristics easily at low cost.

摘要： On a pit information surface (22d) of a read-only optical disk (22), a protective layer (22f) suited for a floating-type or a sliding-type magnetic head (3) used for a magnetic field modulation type magneto-optical disk is formed. A reproducing operation with respect to the optical disk (22) is performed while allowing the magnetic head (3) to slide on the protective layer (22f). Accordingly, a magnetic head does not need to be separated from a disk in reproduction. Thus, an optical disk device can be manufactured at lower cost and reduced in size, and a high-speed seek can be realized. Commonality of a disk cartridge (32) with the magnetic field modulation type magneto-optical disk also can be achieved. An optical disk system that is user-friendly thus can be obtained.

摘要： An optical disc apparatus includes a withdrawal means for moving an objective lens (32) to a position distant from an optical disc (1) during an inactive duration of intermittent recording or reproducing operation. A means for regulating or fixing the objective lens (32) at the position distant from the optical disc (1) is further provided. Thus, even in a noncontrolled state during the inactive duration, it is possible to prevent collision of the objective lens (32) with the optical disc (1).
