摘要： A stator includes a hollow cylindrical stator core comprised of a plurality of stator core segments, a stator coil mounted on the stator core, and an outer cylinder that is fitted on die radially outer surfaces of the stator core segments so as to fasten the stator core segments together. The stator core has a recess formed in the radially outer surface of one of the stator core segments. The outer cylinder has a slit that radially penetrates the outer cylinder to connect the radially outer and inner surfaces of the outer cylinder and an engaging portion that adjoins the slit. The engaging portion of the outer cylinder is plastically deformed radially inward into the recess of the stator core so as to abut and thereby engage with side walls of the recess which face the engaging portion.

摘要： A quarter wavelength plate for reducing the dependence of a retardation value on an incident beam angle in optically anisotropic crystals. The quarter wavelength plate is formed of optically anisotropic crystals in a thickness of 0.1 mm to 0.5 mm. The quarter wavelength plate can contribute to a reduction in the dependence of the retardation value on the angle at which a light beam impinges on the quarter wavelength plate, and to a reduction in color shading caused by a rise in temperature. A reflection type liquid crystal display device which employs the quarter wavelength plate can enhance the luminance and contrast.

摘要： In order to improve a characteristic of an optical element, an optical element (polarizing filter) including a substrate 1S having a wire-grid region 1A and a peripheral region 2A positioned on an outer periphery thereof is made to have the following configuration. A wire-grid in which a plurality of line-shaped wires P10 made of Al and extending in a y direction are arranged at spaces S in an x direction is provided in the wire-grid region 1A of the substrate 1S, and a pattern (repetitive pattern) in which a plurality of protruding portions P20 made of Al are arranged is provided in the peripheral region 2A. This pattern is, for example, a checkerboard pattern. According to the above-mentioned configuration, the plurality of wires P10 can be arranged so that their respective ends are spaced apart from an end of the substrate 1S, so that the wires P10 can be prevented from being deformed and nicked. Also, by the plurality of protruding portions P20 in the peripheral region 2A, it is possible to prevent water from entering the wire-grid region 1A.
