Abstract: Methods and apparatus for communicating in a wireless network including apparatus comprising transceiver circuitry to send and receive data in a plurality of time periods, defined by a time division duplex (TDD) time grid, to another entity, the plurality of time periods corresponding to a plurality of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols and the transceiver circuitry being operable to switch from receive mode to transmit mode and/or from transmit mode to receive mode according to a flexible uplink and downlink allocation of the plurality of time periods; and baseband circuitry coupled to the transceiver circuitry to control the transceiver circuitry to switch during a switching interval embedded within a time period corresponding to an OFDM symbol of the plurality of OFDM symbols.

Abstract: A method and mobile communication device adapted for frequency synchronization with a radio access network (RAN) based on frequency shift detection in a first signal received at the mobile communication device, including: offsetting the first signal's frequency by a first value extracted from a second signal received at the mobile communication device; generating a replica of the first signal from a second value extracted from a third signal received at the mobile communication device; multiplying a component of the offset first signal with the replica to generate a product; transforming the product into a frequency-domain signal; and detecting a peak in the frequency-domain signal to determine the frequency shift.

Abstract: A user equipment device comprises physical layer circuitry configured to transmit and receive radio frequency electrical signals with one or more nodes of a radio access network, including monitor at least one of a communication channel unlicensed to a long term evolution (LTE) network (LTE-U) or a communication channel of a licensed assisted access (LAA) network and detect a reference signal (RS) of a subframe communicated using the at least one communication channel; and processing circuitry configured to measure a channel metric over at least a portion of the subframe that includes the RS, and process information included in the subframe according to an LTE communication protocol when the measured channel metric satisfies a specified channel metric threshold value.
