The recess is adapted to accept and house a component therein. A shield disposed within the recess and adapted to slide to a selected position therein, covering a housed component. The sliding shield and housed component are retained within the recess by a retainer system using minimal fasteners.

The transducers are packaged with a reduced number of elements and sealed for exposure to harsh environments, without oil compensation. A transducer assembly includes a frame, an acoustic transducer element disposed on the frame, and an electronics module disposed on the frame and linked to the acoustic transducer element. The pressure and temperature tolerant electronics module is adapted to process a signal associated with the transducer element.

Embodiments implemented as sources are used to excite borehole acoustic modes. Some embodiments provide phased array acoustic energy excitation/signal reception. The transducers are covered with a sealer in a liquid-free configuration and shields are used to protect the transducers.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for detecting a kick in a wellbore using acoustic transducers. In one embodiment, a system for detecting a kick in a wellbore includes a drill string having a plurality of sections of drill pipes and a plurality of kick detection subs disposed between the sections of drill pipes. Each of the kick detection subs includes an acoustic transducer and kick detection circuitry coupled to the acoustic transducer. The kick detection circuitry is configured to detect gas bubbles in the wellbore based on acoustic signals received by the acoustic transducer. The kick detection circuitry is also configured to determine whether a kick is present in the wellbore based on the detected gas bubbles. The kick detection circuitry is further configured to transmit information indicating whether a kick is present to the surface.

The methods and embodiments may include extracting a first core from a sidewall of a wellbore with a coring tool at a first depth, ultrasonically measuring a sound speed of the first core, transmitting the ultrasonically measured sound speed of the first core to a surface display unit, analyzing the ultrasonically measured sound speed in real time, determining the quality of the first core, extracting a second core at the first depth if the first core is determined to be low quality, and extracting the second core at a second depth if the core first is determined to be high quality.
