Abstract: The present disclosure relates to: an image display device having an EOTF for an HDR image which can maximize the expression or vividness of an HDR image output in the image display device even if the output brightness range according to the hardware performance of the image display device is narrower than the brightness range of the HDR image; and a control method therefor. According to one aspect of the present disclosure, an image display device may be provided, the image display device comprising: a display; a storage unit for storing a plurality of EOTF curves for displaying an HDR content image; and a control unit for causing the content image to be displayed by using EOTF curves, from among the plurality of EOTF curves, corresponding to the maximum output brightness of the display and the maximum content brightness of the content.
