    Abstract: A safety brake system (40; 240) for use in a conveyance system. The safety brake system (40; 240) includes a guide rail (20) and a conveyance component moveable along the guide rail (20). The safety brake system (40; 240) includes a safety brake (42; 242), a linkage mechanism (56; 256) and an actuator (44; 144; 244) for the safety brake (42; 242). The safety brake (42; 242) is moveable between a non-braking position where the safety brake (42; 242) is not in engagement with the guide rail (20) and a braking position where the safety brake (42; 242) is engaged with the guide rail (20). The actuator (44; 144; 244) is configured to be mounted to the conveyance component and positioned between first and second ferromagnetic components. The actuator includes an array of magnetic components including a first magnetic component adjacent to and arranged between two second magnetic components.

    Abstract: A protector (200) for an elevator car (102) includes a protective panel (202) and at least one magnet (204) mounted to the protective panel (202). The magnet (204) is configured to be attracted to an internal wall (106) of a passenger compartment (104) of an elevator car (102) so as to retain the protective panel (202) against the internal wall (106). The magnet (204) may be retained against a support (210) of the protector (200) by a retainer assembly (220). The protector (200) may further comprise an electrical device which comprises a lighting device (240) configured to emit light into the passenger compartment (104) of the elevator car (102).

    Abstract: A protector (200) for an elevator car (102) includes a protective panel (202) and at least one magnet (204) mounted to the protective panel (202). The governor assembly includes: a sheave configured to rotate about a central axis (X-X) thereof at a speed related to the speed of movement of an elevator car; a plurality of masses mounted to the sheave for rotation therewith about the central axis (X-X) and configured to move from a first radial position to a second radial position, radially outward of the first radial position, when a speed of rotation of the sheave meets or exceeds a set speed; a sensor configured to detect that the plurality of masses have reached the second radial position; and a brake moveable from a non-braking position in which the sheave is free to rotate to a braking position in which the brake contacts the sheave so as to slow or stop rotation of the sheave.

    Abstract: An elevator car or counterweight, comprising a frame, the frame including an upright structure in which a safety brake is mounted so as to allow for lateral movement of the safety brake relative to the upright structure; at least a first vertically or obliquely extending cantilever spring; wherein a first end of the first cantilever spring is mounted to the upright structure; and wherein the first cantilever spring is arranged such that a point remote from the first end provides a biasing force to the safety brake when the safety brake moves away from a default position. As the safety brake is mounted to allow for lateral movement relative to the frame, the safety brake essentially floats relative to the car or counterweight.

    Abstract: A frictionless safety brake actuator, for use in an elevator system, includes at least two stators; a magnet array positioned between the stators; a linkage attached to the magnet array; and a biasing arrangement. The linkage is actuatable to move a safety brake into frictional engagement with an elevator guide rail. The magnet array is moveable between a first position in which the linkage is actuated and a second position in which the linkage is not actuated. The biasing arrangement is arranged to bias the magnet array towards the first position. The magnet array includes a first magnet set and a second magnet set which comprise at least one magnet each and at least three magnets in total. The magnet(s) of the first magnet set is/are arranged alternately with the magnet(s) of the second magnet set in a stack.
