Abstract: A decoding system decodes a video stream, which is encoded video information. The decoding system includes a decoder that acquires the video steam and generates decoded video information, and a maximum luminance information acquirer that acquires, in a case where a dynamic range of luminance of the video stream is a second dynamic range that is wider than a first dynamic range, maximum luminance information indicating the maximum luminance of the video stream from the video stream. The decoding system also includes an outputter that outputs the decoded video information and the maximum luminance information. Where the dynamic range of luminance of the video stream is expressed by the maximum luminance of all pictures in the video stream as the maximum luminance information, the outputter outputs the decoded video information, along with the maximum luminance information indicating the maximum luminance of all pictures in the video stream.

Abstract: A non-transitory tangible recording medium stores recorded AV data. The AV data includes a system stream file played by a playback device and a management information file having management information corresponding to the system stream file. The system stream file includes a first segment including repeated a first data unit that be decrypted using a first decryption key that the playback device individually has and a second data unit that cannot be decrypted by the first decryption key. The system stream file also includes a second segment which can be decrypted using a second decryption key that the playback device has in common with another playback device. The management information file has a start source packet number, which identifies a start source packet out of a plurality of source packets storing an I-picture that is a random access point, and the start source packet is situated in the second segment.

Abstract: A playback method and a playback device for playing a system stream file are provided. The playback method uses the playback device having one or more memories and circuitry to play the system stream file. The playback method includes reading the system stream file and identifying whether the system stream file to be played back is a first system stream file having a first file format or a second system stream file having a second file format. If the system stream file to be played back is the first system stream file, the method further includes converting a file format of the system stream file that has been read out from the first file format into the second file format. The playback method further includes decoding the system stream file having the second file format.

Abstract: A recording medium includes a video stream of a standard-luminance range and a video stream of high-luminance range, which are used selectively in accordance with a playback environment. The recording medium also includes a subtitle stream of the standard-luminance range and a subtitle stream of the high-luminance range, which are used selectively in accordance with the playback environment. A playlist file includes a management region where playback control information relating to a main stream is stored, and includes an extended region. The management region stores first playback control information specifying playing of the video stream of the high-luminance range and the subtitle stream of the high-luminance range in combination. The extended region stores second playback control information specifying playing of the video stream of the standard-luminance range and the subtitle stream of the standard-luminance range in combination.

Abstract: A playback method of reading out and playing streams from a recording medium is provided, in which are recorded a stream file including a first luminance video expressed by luminance of a first dynamic range, and a second luminance video expressed by luminance of a second dynamic range that is broader than the first dynamic range, and a playlist file for controlling playback of the stream file. The playback method includes, in a case of playing the first luminance video, reading out the first audio streams listed in the first combination information of the playlist file, and playing at the same time with the first luminance video, and in a case of playing the second luminance video, reading out the second audio streams listed in the second combination information of the playlist file, and playing at the same time with the second luminance video.

Abstract: In a playback method of a playback device that plays a system stream file including encrypted video information, the system stream file includes a first segment in which is repeated a first data unit that can be decrypted using a first decryption key that the playback device has and a second data unit of the same data size as the first data unit but cannot be decrypted by the first decryption key, and a second segment which can all be decrypted using a second decryption key that differs from the first decryption key. The playback method reads the system stream file, and performs conversion processing to convert the system stream file that has been read out into a post-conversion system stream, in which the second data unit in the first segment in the system stream file that has been read out is replaced with a plurality of continuous invalid packets, and outs the post-conversion system stream.

Abstract: A playback device reads out from a recording medium and plays multiple High Dynamic Range (HDR) video streams that are encoded with video information. The playback device includes a first register, a second register and a playback unit. For each of the HDR video streams, the first register stores first information indicating whether the playback device corresponds to or not, and the second register stores second information indicating whether a display device connected to the playback device corresponds to or not. The playback unit plays the HDR video streams using a playback format selected based on a playback program stored in the recording medium, in a case where the first information and the second information indicate that there are multiple playback formats corresponding to both the playback device and the display device.
