    摘要: A virtual image system for windshields that permits an image source to reflect off the windshield so that a virtual image, free of ghost image, is visible to the driver. Either a matte black material is applied to a windshield glass pane at any of the outer glass pane windshield surfaces 1 or 2, or at the inner glass pane windshield surface 3, or else a black glossy sheet is disposed at windshield surface 4 upon the windshield frit, whereby the virtual image is provided for any image source having real image rays incident at windshield surface 4.

    摘要: The invention generally relates to an integrated head up displaying (HUD) device including a housing that houses an active-matrix image projecting system and its accompanying electronics, and an optical combiner (for providing a see-through image thereon) connected to the housing via a retractable arm attached at one end to the main body and holds the HUD optical panel at its other end. In particular, the telescopically retractable arm allows the assembly to extend or retract for a desirable combiner height. Further, the LED backlighting array is placed within a reflective light chamber which is lined with a safe, light-weight, low cost, specular, reflective sheet for high reflectivity. The non-conductive, reflective sheet also covers the LED printed circuit board.

    摘要: Glare and spurious reflections of external light on the image source of a head up display are eliminated by a circular polarizer in the optical path of the display. The head up display includes a mirror system for projecting a pattern from the image source onto a vehicle windshield where it is reflected to the operator, wherein polarization is effected at the windshield reflection. The circular polarizer includes a linear polarizer and a quarter wave plate arranged to extinguish the external incident light after reflection from the image source. The linear polarizer axis is aligned with the polarization axis at the windshield to optimize the brightness of the display.
