Abstract:
A boroscope (60) has a first end (62) and a second end (64) and the first end (62) of the boroscope (60) has an optical fibre (66) and light source (68). A working head (70) is attached to the first end (62) of the boroscope (60). The working head (70) has an electrical motor (72) and a tool (74) is attached to and is arranged to be driven by the electrical motor (72) and the boroscope (60) carries a cable (76) extending from the electrical motor (72) to the second end (64) of the boroscope (60).
Abstract:
Apparatus for machining a component of a gas turbine engine, the apparatus including: a flexible pipe having a first end and a second end and defining a conduit for receiving a fluid; one or more first actuators arranged to enable the first end of the flexible pipe to be re-positioned relative to the second end of the flexible pipe; a turbine positioned adjacent to the first end of the flexible pipe, the turbine being arranged to receive fluid from the conduit of the flexible pipe; and a tool head coupled to the first end of the flexible pipe, the tool head including: a fastener arranged to fasten to a tool and to receive torque from the turbine.
Abstract:
Determining a temperature experienced by a region of a component comprising the steps of: providing a component with a temperature sensitive detection material in a first state and exhibiting a first chemical characteristic prior to its exposure to a thermal environment; exposing the component to a thermal environment such that the detection material is converted to a different state in which at least one region of the detection material exhibits at least one chemical characteristic different to the first chemical characteristic; identifying at least one region of the component in which the detection material exhibits the at least one chemical characteristic which is different to the first chemical characteristic; and determining the temperature experienced by the component in the or each region by relating the detection material chemical characteristic in the or each region to a temperature value by reference to a correlation of detection material chemical characteristic and temperature.
