摘要: A variable-nozzle turbocharger includes a cartridge containing a variable vane mechanism connected between the center housing and the turbine housing. The cartridge comprises an annular nozzle ring supporting an array of rotatable vanes, an insert having a tubular portion sealingly received into the bore of the turbine housing and having a nozzle portion extending radially out from one end of the tubular portion and being axially spaced from the nozzle ring with the vanes therebetween, a plurality of spacers connected between the nozzle portion of the insert and the nozzle ring, and an annular retainer ring fastened to the center housing so as to capture the nozzle ring between the retainer ring and the center housing. The retainer ring is formed as a separate part from the insert ring and is mechanically and thermally decoupled from the insert.

摘要: A variable-nozzle turbocharger includes a cartridge containing a variable vane mechanism connected between the center housing and the turbine housing. The cartridge comprises an annular nozzle ring supporting an array of rotatable vanes, an insert having a tubular portion sealingly received into the bore of the turbine housing and having a nozzle portion extending radially out from one end of the tubular portion and being axially spaced from the nozzle ring with the vanes therebetween, a plurality of spacers connected between the nozzle portion of the insert and the nozzle ring, and an annular retainer ring fastened to the center housing so as to capture the nozzle ring between the retainer ring and the center housing. The retainer ring is formed as a separate part from the insert ring and is mechanically and thermally decoupled from the insert.

摘要: An exemplary semi-floating bearing for a turbocharger has a central axis defining a cylindrical coordinate system with an axial direction, a radial direction and an angular direction; a turbine end; a compressor end; journal surfaces between the turbine end and the compressor end, the surfaces configured to support a turbocharger shaft; and an opening disposed between the turbine end and the compressor end, the opening having a radial dimension that exceeds an axial dimension to, upon receipt of a locating pin, provide for movement of the bearing in the angular direction about its central axis and to provide for lesser movement of the bearing in the axial direction. Other exemplary bearings, arrangements and methods are also disclosed.

摘要: Cambered vanes of this invention are constructed for use within a vaned turbocharger and comprise an inner airfoil surface oriented adjacent a turbine wheel, and an outer airfoil surface oriented opposite the inner airfoil surface. The inner and outer airfoil surfaces define a vane airfoil thickness. A cambered vane leading edge or nose is positioned along a first inner and outer airfoil surface junction, and a vane trailing edge positioned along a second inner and outer surface junction. The vane inner and outer airfoil surfaces are specially configured to provide a vane camberline having a curved section. Specifically, the vane camberline curved section has a measure of curvature is defined within a degree of tolerance by a vane placement or pivot diameter, as generally measured between diametrically opposed vanes mounted in the turbocharger, for providing improved gas flow distribution, thereby increasing the effective operating range of the turbocharger.

摘要: A turbocharger assembly includes a compressor wheel with a base surface, a nose surface, a z-plane disposed between the base surface and the nose surface and a bore extending from the base surface to the nose surface and a shaft that includes a first pilot surface disposed in the bore of the compressor wheel at a position between the z-plane and the nose surface, a second pilot surface disposed in the bore of the compressor wheel at a position between the z-plane and the base surface, and a recessed surface disposed between the first pilot surface and the second pilot surface. A nut adjustably disposed on the shaft adjacent to the nose surface can tension the shaft to apply a compressive load between the base surface and the nose surface of the compressor wheel. Various other examples of devices, assemblies, systems, methods, etc., are also disclosed.

摘要: A turbocharger assembly includes: a housing with a through-bore and a cross-bore that intersects the through-bore to define an upper portion of the cross-bore with a first diameter and a lower portion of the cross-bore with a second diameter where the first diameter exceeds the second diameter; a bearing disposed in the through-bore of the housing where the bearing includes a through-bore configured to support a shaft and a cross-bore that intersects the through-bore; and a locating pin with a diameter that exceeds the second diameter of the lower portion of the cross-bore of the housing, the locating pin press-fit at least partially into the lower portion of the cross-bore of the housing and disposed at least partially in the lower portion of the cross-bore of the bearing to locate the bearing in the through-bore of the housing. Various other examples of devices, assemblies, systems, methods, etc., are also disclosed.

An exemplary turbocharger assembly includes a housing with a bore, a bearing positioned in the bore where the bearing has a wall opening and a multi-piece locating pin secured to the housing and inserted at least partially in the wall opening to axially locate the bearing in the bore. Other exemplary pins, arrangements and methods are also disclosed.
