    摘要: A rail car having an interior cavity and an end opening for loading and unloading lading. A pair of door assemblies, each of which includes a plurality of panels, each pivotally movable with respect to the other for closing at least a portion of the end opening. Pivot means for mounting each of the door assemblies are provided to move the door assemblies between their respective open position and closed position. The pivot means are mounted for movement toward and away from the interior of the rail car to permit storage of the door assemblies within the rail car when their panels are folded back upon one another. The means for moving the pivot means include a guide means in the form of a pair of parallel racks and co-operating pinions drivingly mounted on a common manually driven shaft, one rack and co-operating pinion each at the top portion and the bottom portion of the door assembly. The rack and pinions function to keep the top and bottom portions in register as the folded door assemblies move along tracks extending normal the opening into the interior of the car for storage. The pinion driving shafts are manually driven and include pawl means which hold the doors in storage until the pawl is automatically removed from the teeth of its associated pinion upon manual pulling out of the door assembly. Intermediate locking means on the edges of horizontally disposed lading deck members adjacent the opening are provided, as well as a final locking means which includes a plurality of cams pivoted for movement in unison on a common locking shaft. The shaft includes a locking flange by which vertically movable interference means can selectively restrain the locking flange to prevent rotational movement of the locking shaft for unlocking of the doors. A pivoted sealing lug and appropriately positioned adjacent apertures on the lug and member prevent movement of the interference member during transit of the car.

    摘要: A multi-deck rail car having an interior cavity and an end opening for loading and unloading lading is provided with a pair of door assemblies, each of which includes a plurality of panels. Each door assembly is pivotally movable for closing at least a portion of the end opening. Double vertical pivots mount each of the door assemblies and are provided such that they move the door assemblies between their respective open position, storage position and closed position. The double vertical pivot means are cranks pivoted at either end to permit pivoting of the door assemblies for storage within the rail car, when their panels are folded back upon one another. A lock for the doors includes a rigid projection extending from the edge of a first one of the panels behind and past an adjacent edge of the second of the two panels and in register with a cutout in the adjacent edge of the second panel. A locking bar is mounted on the second door for reciprocal movement in a vertical direction such that gravity can act to lock the door. A locking cam is pivotally mounted adjacent the bar for engagement with a stop projection on the bar to selectively permit the bar to be lifted.

    摘要: A chock for use in securing four wheel vehicles to a deck mounted rail of a transport carrier is formed of a polymer body which has a pocket formed and adapted to mount the body laterally over a deck mounted rail having a series of transverse openings. A pin is mounted in the body for movement into a rail opening to secure the chock to the rail. The pin is mounted in a bushing which is encased in the polymer chock body and there is a vertical load member extending upwardly from the bushing, with the vertical load member being encased in the polymer chock body to distribute vertical loads through the body. The pocket has spaced walls which extend generally parallel to and closely adjacent the rail. Portions of the pocket walls adjacent the termination of the pocket at the exterior of the chock body are recessed away from the rail so that a transverse load applied to the chock, which causes the pocket walls to contact the rail, is distributed over a substantial portion of the chock body adjacent the pocket walls and from the pocket exterior toward the pocket interior.

A through is secured to the slope sheets beneath the lips and a rotatable valve shaft controls the flow of material from the interior of the gate above the slope sheets to the discharge trough. The valve shaft has axially spaced and axially extending recessed areas and an intermediate full diameter portion between recesses. A spacer extends circumferentially about the shaft intermediate portion and radially outwardly therefrom. The spacer is in contact with the slope sheet lips and locates the shaft out of contact therewith.

    摘要: A railway house car has plug doors, each with a pair of rotationally driven top operating cranks and an auxiliary crank in engagement with a c-shaped top retainer. The auxiliary crank is mounted between the operating cranks on a lower vertical crank end for rotation relative to the door. An upper vertical crank end of the auxiliary cranks has mounted thereon a front sled moveably engaging the inner surface of the downwardly extending front flange of the top retainer and a bottom sled moveably engaging the upper surface of the laterally outwardly extending lower flange of the top retainer. The bottom sled and lower flange extend outwardly beyond the front sled and front flange to resist the auxiliary crank's outward pivotal movement and separation from the retainer and any door displacement as a result. The sleds provide large load bearing surface areas to resist distortion and are spaced and mounted on the common vertical axis of the upper vertical crank end for rotation independent of each other.

Pivot means comprising a shaft for mounting each of the door assemblies are provided to move the door assemblies between their respective open position and closed position. The pivot means are mounted for movement toward and away from the interior of the rail car on a track to permit storage of the door assemblies within the rail car when their panels are folded back upon one another. The shaft is manually driven by means of a housing. A rack and a source of rotational power including a cooperating pinion mounted on the shaft act to guide, move and lock the door. The housing has a cavity into which one or more enlarged lever ends are inserted and secured before assembly of the housing to the shaft. The levers may be stored parallel to the shaft to conserve valuable space when not in use but can be moved transverse to the shaft to increase the mechanical advantage and therefor power applied through the housing to the shaft during use. A spring biased pawl controlled by a cam surface on the housing normally prevents rotation of the pinion and, therefore, normally locks the door assemblies in the storage position. Manual rotation of the shaft axially cams the housing and creates rotation of the pawl to permit rotation of the pinion and movement of door assembly out of the storage position.

The side wall has a bottom surface. The angle between the sloping peripheral side wall and the side wall bottom surface is constant over the interior periphery of the cover. The height of the sloping side wall gradually increases from a minimum height adjacent the hinge and lock assembly to a maximum height generally midway between the hinge and lock assembly.

There is a full release position in which the cam lock permits full pivotal movement of the hatch cover about the hinge.

    摘要: A railroad hopper car discharge gate has slope sheets which terminate in a longitudinally extending lip, with the lips being spaced and there being a trough secured to the slope sheets beneath the spaced lips. Discharge from the gate is controlled by a rotatable longitudinal discharge valve shaft which extends between the lips of the slope sheets and is positioned to control flow from the gate interior above the slope sheets to the discharge trough. There is an operating handle for each end of the shaft, with the handles each being movable between a position in which the handle is locked on the shaft for rotation therewith, and a position in which the shaft is rotatable relative to the handle. There are stops positioned adjacent each handle for limiting rotation thereof. The valve shaft has a pair of axially spaced and axially extending recessed areas which are circumferentially non-aligned, but in part circumferentially overlapping. The handle stops permit rotation of the shaft by operation of only one handle between a fully closed position in which neither recess connects the gate interior with the discharge trough, two partially open positions in which one or another of the recesses connect the gate interior with the discharge trough, and a cleanout position in which one of the recesses is fully open and the other recess is partially open.
