    摘要: The present invention provides a liquid crystal display having high aperture ratio and high transmittance, which prevents signal delay in the gate bus line and also improves the intensity of fringe field, and the method of manufacturing the same. The liquid crystal display is manufactured according to the steps of: forming a gate bus line and a common signal line on a lower substrate; forming a gate insulating layer on the lower substrate in which the gate bus line and the common signal line are formed; forming a channel layer on a selected portion of the gate insulating layer comprising the gate bus line; forming a source and a drain electrodes so as to overlap with both sides of the channel layer, and a data bus line being arranged perpendicular to the gate bus line; etching the gate insulating layer so as to expose a selected portion of the common signal line; forming a counter electrode by depositing an ITO layer on the gate insulating layer, and by patterning a selected portion thereof so as to contact with the exposed common signal line; depositing a passivation layer over the gate insulating layer in which the counter electrode is formed; etching the passivation layer so as to expose a selected portion of the drain electrode; and forming a pixel electrode, by depositing the ITO layer on the passivation layer so as to contact to the exposed drain electrode, and by patterning a selected portion of the ITO layer so that a fringe field is formed by being overlapped with the counter electrode.

    摘要: The present invention provide a homeotropic alignment liquid crystal display having a multi-domain which is capable of obtaining symmetrical viewing angles and simultaneously preventing color shift. An upper substrate and a lower substrate are opposed each other to be spaced apart and a liquid crystal layer interposed between inner surfaces of the upper and lower substrates. A first electrode and a second electrode are formed on the inner surface of the lower substrate, wherein the first electrode and the second electrode form an electric field for driving liquid crystal molecules. Further, homeotropic alignment layers are interposed between the lower substrate and the liquid crystal layer and between the upper substrate and the liquid crystal layer respectively. After a selected voltage is applied to the first and second electrodes, there are formed simultaneously a first electric field having a selected angle with a first direction and a second electric field making a symmetry with the first electric field with respect to the first electric field and the first direction. Therefore, the liquid crystal molecules are tilted in their left side and right side with respect to the center lines of electric fields thereby forming four symmetric liquid crystal domains within one pixel region.

The method comprises the steps of: forming a gate bus line and a common signal line by depositing a metal layer on a lower substrate and by patterning a selected portion of the metal layer; forming a gate insulating layer on the lower substrate in which the gate bus line is formed; forming a channel layer on a selected portion of the gate insulating layer having the gate bus line; forming a source electrode overlapped with one side of the channel layer, a drain electrode overlapped with the other side of the channel layer, and a data bus line being contacted to the source electrode and crossed with the gate bus line, by depositing a metal layer on the gate insulating layer in which the channel layer is formed, and by patterning a selected portion of the metal layer; forming an intermetal insulating layer having a uniform topology on a surface of the gate insulating layer; etching selected portions of the intermetal insulating layer and the gate insulating layer so as to expose selected portions of the common signal line and the drain electrode; and forming a counter electrode contacted with the common signal line and a pixel electrode contacted with the drain electrode by depositing a transparent metal layer on the intermetal insulating layer and by patterning a selected portion of the transparent metal layer.

The present invention provides a reflective liquid crystal display comprising: a lower substrate and an upper substrate opposed with a selected distance; a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the lower and upper substrates and comprising a plurality of liquid crystal molecules; a gate bus line and a data bus line formed on the lower substrate to define a pixel; a counter electrode and a pixel electrode formed at an inner surface of the lower substrate, wherein both electrodes are formed with a selected distance and width so that most of the liquid crystal molecules in upper portions of those electrodes are sufficiently driven by forming a fringe field between said counter and pixel electrodes; a thin film transistor provided adjacent to an intersection of the gate bus line and the data bus line and transmitting a signal of the data bus line into the pixel electrode when the gate bus line is selected; a polarizing plate disposed at an outer surface of the upper substrate; a reflecting plate disposed at an outer surface of the lower substrate; and a quarter wave plate sandwiched between the quarter wave plate and the lower substrate, or between the polarizing plate an the upper substrate, wherein both counter and pixel electrodes are made of a transparent conductor, wherein a distance between the upper and lower substrates is greater in length than a distance between the counter and pixel electrodes.
