    Abstract: A flow control device that includes an orifice placed in an opening of a duct. A flexible sheet of material is wrapped around a first duct section to include an extended section which is crimped inwardly around the face of the orifice. A sleeve with tightening straps can be wrapped around the aligned first and second duct sections, with the sections having the orifice positioned between. A bead on the duct sections can assist in orifice positioning, attachment, and sealing. The orifice can also be attached to the duct section using tabs and a retention ring. A duct sleeve is also provided for placement in the opening of a duct. The duct sleeve includes a reception slot that receives an orifice plate that is attached in a secure and sealable manner.

    Abstract: An apparatus for irradiating air flow in a vehicle includes a filter unit configured to couple to a recirculating-air conduit connected to a manifold of an air circulation system, the filter unit having an inlet end, and a filter disposed in the inlet end of the filter unit, including an outer High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) media. The apparatus further includes a plurality of ultraviolet light transmissive strands that each have distal ends disposed in a spaced apart manner in an interface region between the outer HEPA media filter and an inner activated carbon filter or HEPA filter, and proximal ends connectable to an ultraviolet light emitting source such that ultraviolet light is transmitted by the transmissive strands into the interface region. The transmissive strands are configured to receive emitted ultraviolet light that is substantially between 222 nm and 265 nm for irradiating air passing through the filter.

    Abstract: A cap for closing an open end of a duct tube has a cylindrical side wall having a length between a closed end and an open end of the side wall. An end wall extends across the closed end of the side wall. A conical section of the side wall extends outwardly from the open end of the side wall and has an interior surface configured to guide an end of a duct tube into a hollow interior volume of the side wall. A groove in an interior surface of the side wall is configured to receive a bead around an end of a duct tube inserted through the conical section and into the hollow interior of the side wall. A plurality of pull tabs extend outwardly from the conical section and are configured to be manually pulled, pulling the cap over the end of the duct tube.

    Abstract: Described herein are noise attenuating ducts and vehicles using these ducts for environmental control systems. A duct comprises an exoskeleton structure and a sound-absorbing structure, disposed within and conforming to the exoskeleton structure. The exoskeleton structure provides external mechanical support to the sound-absorbing structure thereby helping to maintain the tubular shape of the sound-absorbing structure. This external support does not interfere with the airflow inside the sound-absorbing structure. Furthermore, the external positioning of the exoskeleton structure allows the integration of various support mounting features for the installation of the duct in a vehicle. In some examples, the exoskeleton structure comprises a plurality of enclosed openings to reduce the weight of the exoskeleton structure and provide additional flexibility. Furthermore, additive manufacturing of the exoskeleton structure allows achieving a monolithic structure with various features and characteristics described above.
