    Abstract: A cooktop assembly includes a cooking panel. A heating element is operably coupled to the cooking panel. The heating element forms a heating zone for said cooktop assembly. A support surface extends over the heating element for supporting a cooking vessel thereon. The support surface includes a heating zone surface in the heating zone, a surrounding surface outside the heating zone, and a surface discontinuity defining a kinesthetic feature providing feedback for demarcating the heating zone relative to the surrounding surface and positioning the cooking vessel relative to the heating zone and, consequently, the heating element.

    Abstract: A control circuit for an induction heating device includes a D.C. power supply, referenced to a ground connection and configured to supply power to the induction heating device. A switching device is configured to be selectively activated to control the induction heating device. The switching device is connected on one end to the ground connection. A resonant load is disposed between the D.C. power supply and the switching device, the resonant load including a capacitor and an inductor connected in a parallel configuration. At least one rectifying device is disposed in series with the resonant load and the switching device. The switching device is configured to control current from the D.C. power supply through the resonant load.

    Abstract: An electromagnetic energy delivery system includes a set of radio frequency channels; each channel configured to receive a set of reference signals. Each channel further includes a compensation component and a phase-locked loop component. The compensation component can be configured to determine a phase difference between at least a subset of the reference signals; compare the phase difference with a predetermined reference phase difference; and determine a reference signal compensation offset value based on the comparison of the phase difference and the predetermined reference phase difference. The phase-locked loop component can be configured to generate a phase-shifted signal wherein the phase shift is based on at least the reference signal compensation offset value.

    Abstract: A cooktop includes a burner, a power delivery module including a burner, an actuator for selectively heating the burner, and an audible alert module. The cooktop further includes a control system configured to detect a presence of a cooking vessel with a detection signal from the power delivery module and determine if a location of the cooking vessel is centered on the burner within a first threshold distance. The control system is further configured to, if the location of the cooking vessel is not centered within the first threshold distance, prevent the actuator from selectively heating the burner and generate a first audible alert with the audible alert module.

    Abstract: An induction cooking apparatus including a cooktop panel, induction coil, controller, and temperature sensor assembly. A temperature sensor and guiding support are positioned in sliding engagement in an opening in the center of the induction coil where an upper end of the temperature sensor sits above a top surface of the induction coil. The controller includes a first circuit board that supplies electricity to the induction coil. A second circuit board, separate from the first circuit board, is electrically connected to the temperature sensor and includes a cantilevered leaf-spring structure that supports the temperature sensor. The guiding support is a load bearing structure that transmits a biasing force created by deflection of the cantilevered leaf-spring structure to the temperature sensor, which operates to hold the temperature sensor in contact with a lower surface of the cooktop panel.

    Abstract: A solid state radio frequency generation system is provided for an electromagnetic cooking device having an enclosed cavity. The radio frequency generation system includes: an RF feed for introducing electromagnetic radiation into the cavity to heat a food load; a high-power RF amplifier coupled to the RF feed, the amplifier comprising at least one amplifying stage configured to output a signal that is amplified in power with respect to an input RF signal; a small signal generator for supplying the input RF signal to the amplifier; and a switching power supply unit including a single DC-DC converter that converts AC mains power to low voltage DC for supply to the amplifier, and a controller configured to adapt an input current from the AC mains power to form a predefined periodic waveform with the same frequency as the AC mains power for supply to the small signal generator.
