摘要： In a color television receiver including a comb filter for separating luminance and chrominance components of a color television signal, a network is included for selectively restoring and enhancing vertical image detail to preserve and enhance vertical resolution in the luminance content of a displayed image. The comb filter provides a combed luminance signal output from which vertical detail signal information has been unavoidably deleted, and a combed chrominance signal output including signal frequency components representative of the deleted signal, which are selectively extracted from the combed chrominance signal. Low level detail signals are restored to the combed luminance signal via a first signal processing network with a prescribed restoration gain. The detail signal is also combined with the combed luminance signal via a second signal processing network which cores (removes) low level detail signals including noise, and enhances higher level detail signals through amplification to enhance vertical image definition. A resultant reconstituted luminance component manifests restored low level vertical detail information as well as enhanced higher level vertical detail information, without enhancing unwanted signal components such as noise.

摘要： A coring circuit is provided in a system which includes a gain controlled device. The diodes which produce the coring effect are biased by a signal which is related to the gain control signal coupled to the device. In this way, the coring threshold is made to vary relative to changes in the amplitude of the applied signal so that the percentage of coring remains fixed over a range of applied signal amplitude levels.

摘要： An apparatus for reducing the effect of co-channel interference on horizontal synchronization of a television receiver having a comb filter for separating luminance and chrominance signals from a composite video signal comprises a synchronizing pulse separator, coupled to the comb filter output, for driving horizontal synchronizing pulses from the comb filter luminance signal. The co-channel interference beat frequency signals are reduced in amplitude by the comb filter and hence do not disrupt the operation of the synchronizing pulse separator.

摘要： A burst gate pulse generating circuit includes a normally saturated transistor responsive to a pulse representative of a horizontal sync component of a video signal which includes a burst interval. The sync pulse is coupled to a base input of the transistor via an RC differentiating network for causing the transistor to operate between saturated and cut-off states, such that a gate pulse produced at the transistor collector output is delayed relative to the sync pulse and substantially coincides with the burst interval. The circuit is arranged so that the sync pulse as coupled via the differentiating network causes the base-emitter junction of the transistor to break down in the reverse direction. The timing of the output gate pulse is therefore substantially independent of the sync pulse amplitude, which can vary undesirably, thereby promoting accurate pulse timing.

摘要： A video signal to be processed is applied to a non-linear processor having an adjustable gain responsive to a control signal over at least one portion of the amplitude range of the video input signal. A sampling circuit, responsive to the video signal, generates video samples related to the video signal. 摘要： In a color television system having picture-in-picture (PIP) capability, apparatus is provided for automatically modifying the operation of a beam current limiting (BCL) section while the small picture is being displayed to prevent the visibility of the small picture from being adversely affected. In the preferred embodiment, a contrast BCL control signal is decoupled from the contrast section, and a substitute control signal, at least approximating the user responsive contrast control signal, is substituted for it in response to a switching signal which causes the small picture to be inserted within the big picture. However, the BCL section continues to be responsive to the beam current during the time interval in which the small picture is displayed so that the BCL contrast signal accurately represents the contents of the entire image. In addition, the operation of an automatic contrast reduction section which is responsive to a peak-white representative video signal is also disabled during the time interval in which the small picture is displayed. In an alternate embodiment only the operation of the contrast BCL section is disabled, but the operation of the automatic contrast control is maintained. If desired, a brightness BCL control signal may also be decoupled from the brightness section.

摘要： In a color television system, the color signals produced by a luma-chroma IC are summed to produce a signal representative of processed luminance information not otherwise readily available. Pulses of the summed signal corresponding to retrace blanking pulses contained in the color signals, are stripped away in order to reduce errors when attributes of the summed signal are determined, e.g., by an average detector. The detector provides a control signal for modification of a luminance signal, such as by "white stretch".

摘要： A system for processing the luminance component of a composite video signal in a television receiver is disclosed. The receiver includes a comb filter responsive to the video signal for providing first and second combed output signals from which luminance and chrominance components are respectively derived. A restored luminance signal, comprising signals from the first comb filter output and vertical detail information derived from the second comb filter output, is linearly processed by a network including a horizontal signal peaking circuit. A vertical detail component derived from the second comb filter output is non-linearly processed by a network which generates a vertical detail peaking component. The vertical peaking component is low-pass filtered and then combined with horizontally peaked luminance signals to produce a horizontally and vertically peaked luminance signal, which is afterwards applied to further luminance signal processing circuits of the receiver.
