    Abstract: A musical instrument with an improved interface for playing the instrument is provided. The musical instrument may be configured with a musical scale and a key. An input interface of the musical instrument may be configured based on the scale and key to allow a player of the instrument to easily play multiple collections of notes, or chords, in a simplified manner. For example, the improved interface allows a user to play a number of chords or other collection of notes without having to depress or engage a number of sound actuators at different locations along instrument.

    Abstract: A system for producing music from a stringed musical instrument includes a sensor/actuating transducer arrangement coupled to each or all of one or a plurality of the tensioned strings and supervisory system that governs one or more motion controllers associated with the transducer to affect the string vibration through at least one actuator transducer coupled to the string(s) in accordance with technique commands issued by the player of the instrument, the technique commands being recognized by processes in the supervisor from among characteristics of signal features extracted by further processes continuously analyzing the motional behavior of one or more strings.

    Abstract: There are provided a singing voice-synthesizing method and apparatus capable of performing synthesis of natural singing voices close to human singing voices based on performance data being input in real time. Performance data is inputted for each phonetic unit constituting a lyric, to supply phonetic unit information, singing-starting time point information, singing length information, etc. Each performance data is inputted in timing earlier than the actual singing-starting time point, and a phonetic unit transition time length is generated. By using the phonetic unit transition time, the singing-starting time point information, and the singing length information, the singing-starting time points and singing duration times of the first and second phonemes are determined. In the singing voice synthesis, for each phoneme, a singing voice is generated at the determined singing-starting time point and continues to be generated for the determined singing duration time.

    Abstract: An electronic musical instrument which can realize a choking effect by a simple operation. The electronic musical instrument is constructed such that a neck provided with a fingerboard is fixed to a body. A plurality of (twelve) fret operating elements are provided for each of six sounding channels. The body is provided with a string input section and an arm, and six stringed operating elements are provided for the respective sounding channels. For each sounding channel, a tone generator generates a musical tone at a pitch determined by the corresponding fret operating element and in sounding timing determined by the corresponding stringed operating element. When the arm is operated, a CPU provides control to apply a choking effect to a musical tone for a sounding channel, in which the musical tone is being sounded, by raising the pitch of the musical tone by a predetermined amount.

    Abstract: A wavetable audio synthesizer with means for eliminating zipper noise caused by large volume increments, especially at slower rates of volume increment. The wavetable audio synthesizer includes shift circuitry which stores the value of volume increment in binary format and shifts the value right when the shift circuitry is enabled. Shifting the increment value right divides the value by an amount based on the number of bit positions shifted. For example, in the preferred embodiment, the volume increment value is shifted right three positions, thereby dividing it by three and effectively reducing the increment value. When the synthesizer is programmed to increment the volume at a slow rate, preferably the shift circuitry is automatically enabled. Those volume increment bits which are shifted right may be added to the current value of the volume to provide more resolution to this value.
