An improved design drawing device for drawing amorphous patterns is disclosed. The drawing device contains at least one flexible guide bendable into any desired shape and having an outer circumference wall and an inner circumference wall, at least one solid wheel disk which is rotatable about the inner circumference wall of the flexible guide, at least one hole through the solid wheel disk through which a drawing implement is positionable, wherein the solid wheel disk is rotatable about the inner circumference wall or outer circumference wall of the flexible guide when the drawing implement is positioned through the hole positioned through the solid wheel disk, thereby forming a patterned drawing. The flexible guide is made of a soft plastic which preferably surrounds a flexible bar. As the wheel disk revolves around the inner surface of the flexible guide, the teeth of the wheel disk enter the surface of the flexible guide at right angles to lock into the surface of the flexible guide.

An improved design drawing device for drawing amorphous patterns is disclosed. The drawing device contains a segmented flexible guide comprised of segments covered with a soft plastic or rubber or rubber type surface piece. The segments each consist of a male ratchet and a female ratchet, which snap together, wherein the size of the designs created are determined by the number of segments used to create the design. When the segments are attached together, they ratchet relative other so as to lock their positions in place. The drawing device also comprises at least one solid wheel disk which is rotatable about the inner circumference wall of the segmented flexible guide, and at least one hole through the solid wheel disk through which a drawing implement is positionable, wherein the solid wheel disk is rotatable about the inner circumference wall or outer circumference wall of the segmented flexible guide when the drawing implement is positioned through the hole positioned through the solid wheel disk, thereby forming a patterned drawing. This very simple apparatus enlarges in one direction, and copies without enlargement in an orthogonal direction. A tracing arm has a tracing stylus at one point, a drawing-implement holder at another point, and a longitudinal track along another part of the arm. The track engages a pivot that in effect resolves all tracing motions into radial and rotary components. Radial components are traced without change of size; but rotary components are enlarged by a factor that depends on the ratio of radii from the pivot to the stylus and implement holder respectively. A photo or other picture to be traced is held in a retainer on a platform; and drawing paper is held on an easel. The retainer and easel are sized in relation to their distances from the tracing-arm pivot to limit the overall angular range of operation to significantly less than sixty degrees; this limitation makes the rotary components very nearly straight-line components, so that the enlargement direction appears roughly to be one straight-line direction that is perpendicular to the nonenlargement direction. The platform is rotatably mounted and has detents so that a user can place a photo in any of a multiplicity of angular orientations relative to the enlargement direction.

This amusement device is for use with paper and one or more pens, to draw compound plural-lobe designs. It has a base and a paper carriage mounted to the base for, ideally, rotation through a complete design-drawing motion. A pen-holding arm preferably has a motion-imparting fitting at one end, and a longitudinal slot partway between the ends. A pivot pin, movable on the base, engages the slot to provide a fixed arm-pivot axis. The pen holder performs repetitive excursions which each define a single element or lobe of a design, with a fixed ratio between number of excursions and number of complete design-drawing motions. To provide this coordination the motional fitting on the arm is linked mechanically to the carriage--in such a way (preferably using toothed gears) as to be manually offset-table in fixed increments, for redrawing a design offset by fixed steps along the carriage operating direction to make a compound design. Design-element lobes are moved radially by use of various pen positions on the arm; sized by shifting an eccentric drive pin radially on a drive gear, and by shifting the pivot pin relative to the carriage/drive-gear line of centers; skewed by offsetting the pivot pin from the line of centers; arbitrarily deformed by a cam on the drive gear; and varied in number by change of drive gears.
