Abstract:
The battery charger is provided with a holding cavity 2 that allows a first rectangular battery pack 30 and a second rectangular battery pack 40 to be loaded in a detachable fashion. The holding cavity has a rectangular opening and has first charging terminals 5A to contact first rectangular battery pack electrode terminals 32, and second charging terminals 5B to contact second rectangular battery pack 40 electrode terminals 42 established on a first perimeter wall 4A and second perimeter wall 4B, which are perpendicular. The battery charger charges the first rectangular battery pack through the first charging terminals when it is loaded in the holding cavity with electrode terminals 32 in contact with the first charging terminals. The battery charger charges the second rectangular battery pack through the second charging terminals when it is loaded in the holding cavity with electrode terminals in contact with the second charging terminals.

An in-vehicle navigation device in which a route search block outputs a search result of a guiding route from an exit of the expressway to an entrance of the expressway by way of the selected facility to a display block to make the display block display the search result in a case where a present position detected by a present position detection block is on an expressway and where position of a target facility selected by a facility information selection block is outside the expressway.
Abstract:
A method of an embodiment of the present of the present application is for producing a nano-scale low dimensional quantum structure. The method includes: bringing a catalyst on a substrate into contact with vaporized carbon source, and emitting an electromagnetic wave to the catalyst so as to form single-walled carbon nano-tubes on the catalyst. As a result, it is possible to form the nano-scale low-dimensional quantum structure on a target area.
Abstract:
A method of fusion splicing optical fibers with different diameters, comprising: (a) preheating for a predetermined period of time an end of a large-diameter optical fiber; (b) advancing relatively the small-diameter optical fiber toward large diameter fiber; (c) preheating for a predetermined period of time the ends of the both optical fibers; (d) advancing at least one of the optical fibers so that end faces of the optical fibers are brought into contact with each other; and (e) heating a predetermined period of time the faces of the optical fibers.
Abstract:
A voltage detection circuit of the invention is composed of the minimum needed number of circuit elements and that permits the temperature characteristic of the reference level for voltage detection to be set arbitrarily. The voltage detection circuit has a first transistor and a second transistor that have the emitters thereof connected together to form a differential pair, a voltage division circuit that divides the input voltage into a first division voltage and a second division voltage, that is connected directly to the base of the first transistor to apply the first division voltage thereto, and that is connected directly to the base of the second transistor to apply the second division voltage thereto, and a resistor that has one end thereof connected to the base of the second transistor and that has the other end thereof connected to the emitter of the second transistor. Whether the input voltage is equal to a predetermined level or not is checked based on the output from the differential pair.
Abstract:
Low-pressure-side condensate is subjected to convection heating while dripping in high-pressure-side steam, and to surface turbulent heat transfer due to a circulating flow caused by downflow condensate falling after overflowing. Thus, the temperature of the low-pressure-side condensate can be raised efficiently with satisfactory heat transfer. A bypass connecting pipe enables high-pressure-side condensate to bypass condensate of a reheat chamber and merge with the condensate while keeping a high temperature. Thus, heating of the low-pressure-side condensate is performed sufficiently, with a space for falling being minimized for compactness. Also, condensate in a high amount of heat exchange is fed toward a condensate pump. Hence, a multistage pressure condenser permitting compactness and increased efficiency of a power plant can be constructed.
Abstract:
A power supply apparatus has a regulator and a regulator protection circuit. On detecting an abnormality, an abnormality detection circuit in the regulator protection circuit turns the regulator off. Based on the output of the abnormality detection circuit, an abnormality detection incidence checking circuit in the regulator protection circuit checks whether or not an abnormality has been detected a predetermined number of times within a predetermined length of time. When the abnormality detection incidence checking circuit recognizes that an abnormality has been detected the predetermined number of times within the predetermined length of time, an abnormality detection level setting circuit in the regulator protection circuit decreases the detection level of the abnormality detection circuit. This helps reduce the incidence of malfunctioning of the load to which the regulator feeds its output due to repeated detection of an abnormality and recovery therefrom.
Abstract:
In a conventional semiconductor integrated circuit device, a means for preventing a backflow current has a high on-state resistance, which makes it impossible to reduce the voltage loss in normal operation. A semiconductor integrated circuit device of the invention has a first MOS transistor, a second MOS transistor provided between the first MOS transistor and a power supply terminal, and a means that, in normal operation, keeps the gate of the second MOS transistor at a predetermined potential (preferably the ground potential) and that, when a backflow current is likely, turns the second MOS transistor off. This helps prevent a backflow current while reducing the voltage loss in normal operation.
Abstract:
A fusion-bonded optical component is created using a laser oscillator for irradiating at least one beam of laser light upon optical components, for example an end of a rod lens and an end of an optical fiber. The optical components are fusion-bonded at respective ends. A CCD camera is used for observing a shape change caused by the laser beam irradiation of the ends during the fusion bonding, and a controlling section controls the laser oscillator to form a curved edge in the end portion, the controller controlling the irradiation of the rod lens and optical fiber based at least in part on the observation performed by the CCD camera.
