摘要： A computer program product, an apparatus, and a method for processing communications between a control unit and a channel subsystem in an input/output processing system are provided. The computer program product includes a tangible storage medium readable by a processing circuit and storing instructions for execution by the processing circuit for performing a method. The method includes: sending a command from the channel subsystem to the control unit to initiate an input/output operation; setting a time period for completion of the operation; and responsive to the operation not completing within the time period, sending a message to determine whether the control unit has an exchange open for the command.

摘要： An encryption method encrypts a clear text twice using a first encryption engine to produce a first cipher text and a second encryption engine to produce a second cipher text. The method compares the first cipher text with the second cipher text, or compares a checksum of the first cipher text with a checksum of the second cipher text. If the comparison succeeds, the method transmits the data. In some embodiments, the method uses a first instance of an encryption key to produce the first cipher text and a second instance of the encryption key to produce the second cipher text.

摘要： A device control unit operating under the protocol of a parallel bus is connected by a serial link to a channel that is primarily adapted to operate under a different protocol with device control units connected by a serial link. An extender unit interconnects the parallel bus and the serial link and performs the specific operations of the parallel bus protocol. The channel and the extender unit send serial frames on the link for data transfer and associated operations. These frames are constructed according to a protocol that provides an intermediate step in translating between the protocol of the serial control units and the protocol of the parallel control units. The channel is operable in either mode (by microcode) and the new protocol permits the serial channel mode to be independent of the protocol of the parallel control unit and it permits the two modes to be closely similar in many features. New operations using the protocol reduce the delays that would otherwise be required in the communications between the channel and the extender unit. The serial link can be made longer when the delays are reduced.

摘要： A method of performing an input/output (I/O) processing operation includes: generating an address control structure for each of a plurality of consecutive data transfer requests, each address control structure specifying a local channel memory location of a corresponding address control word (ACW); receiving a data transfer request from a network interface that includes addressing information specified by a corresponding address control structure; comparing, by a data router in the channel, an Offset field of an address control structure and an Expected Offset field of an ACW to determine whether the data transfer request has been received in the correct order; and based on determining that the data transfer request has been received in the correct order, accessing the ACW by the data router and routing the data transfer request to a host memory location specified in the ACW.

摘要： An article of manufacture, apparatus, and a method for facilitating input/output (I/O) processing for an I/O operation at a host computer system configured for communication with a control unit. The method includes the host computer system obtaining a transport command word (TCW) for an I/O operation having both input and output data. The TCW specifies a location of the output data and a location for storing the input data. The host computer system forwards the I/O operation to the control unit for execution. The host computer system gathers the output data responsive to the location of the output data specified by the TCW, and then forwards the output data to the control unit for use in the execution of the I/O operation. The host computer system receives the input data from the control unit and stores the input data at the location specified by the TCW.
