Systems and methods for a wireless communication system used for transmitting and receiving information, the information not containing identification of the information's intended recipient. A method for transmitting payload information, the method comprising providing verification information scrambling a portion of the verification information and transmitting the payload information with the scrambled verification information portion. Also provided is a method for processing transmitted payload information incorporated into an encoded information message with scrambled verification information, the method comprising receiving the encoded information message descrambling at least a portion of the scrambled verification information and comparing said descrambled verification information with predetermined verification information processing said payload information based on said comparison.
Abstract:
An improved electronic device and method provide an improved clock feature that includes a time zone management function which enables multiple times from multiple time zones to be managed by the user. Responsive to a detection that the electronic device has been moved from one time zone to another, a dialog is initiated wherein the user is queried whether a current time on the electronic device should be changed and whether multiple times should be output on the display.

Embodiments of an apparatus and methods for selecting a communication line from two or more lines on a communication device are described herein. The communication device comprises a display module, an input module, a line selection module, and a communication module for making a call over a network to a target recipient. In one broad aspect, a determination of which of the communication lines is the communication line associated with the selected one of at least two appointment categories for an appointment is made in the selection of a communication line accessible at the communication device on which an outgoing call may be placed.

Apparatus and methods for wireless systems provide a mechanism to enhance the communication capabilities of wireless users. In an embodiment, a mobile wireless device is configured to access and control an application executable on a wireless server. In an embodiment, wireless server is configured to execute an application resident on the wireless server under the control of a set of commands from a mobile wireless client. In various embodiments, the application is an application different from an application to maintain and control a wireless communication link between the mobile wireless device and the wireless server.

A method of indicating the availability of a communication service begins by receiving, at a handheld communication device, a service indication of an availability of one of a plurality of communication services, via a wireless communication mode, to the communication device. The handheld communication device receives the service indication from a provider of the one communication service via a wireless non-traffic channel of the wireless communication mode. The communication device then provides a user-indication of the communication service availabilities in accordance with the received service indication.
Abstract:
A method and system of message transport selection for a communication device configured for communication over a plurality of message transports are provided. A determination is made as to whether any of the plurality of message transports is available for sending an outgoing message from the communication device. One of the available message transports is then selected, and the outgoing message is sent from the communication device using the selected message transport. Even though the outgoing message may be of a message type associated with one of the plurality of message transports, other message transports may be selected and used to send the outgoing message from the communication device.

A wireless handheld communication device having a housing containing a display screen located above a physical keyboard. The keyboard includes a plurality of physical keys and corresponding indicia. Some of the keys are associated with alphabetic characters corresponding to a QWERTY array of letters A-Z and some are associated with numeric characters 0-9 corresponding to a telephone keypad arrangement. At least some of the keys associated with numeric characters are overlaid on the physical keys associated with alphabetic characters. A microprocessor is included that runs the device in at least a telephony mode, an email mode and at least one additional mode. The microprocessor displays a key-function map on the display screen indicative of enabled functions associated with particular physical keys of the keyboard which are different from any function signified by the indicia associated with the respective particular physical key.

The present invention provides a novel device and method for controlling the display of electronic information. The device can be based on the computing environment of an enhanced personal digital assistant with cellular telephone and electronic message capabilities. The device is operable to present, on its display, user customizable information, such as wallpaper, in conjunction with non-customizable information, such as icons. The device is also operable to perform a transformation such that the user customizable information and non-customizable information are more legible than if no transformation had occurred.
Abstract:
An improved graphical user interface for browsing web pages on small screens is provided. The user interface first displays a reduced representation of the web page on the screen. Upon selection of a portion of interest within the web page, the user interface displays the selected portion in a larger size, optionally in a verticalized representation. Optionally, both representations can be displayed simultaneously. A method of implementing this web browser is also provided whereby initially, only data sufficient to display the reduced representation of the web page is downloaded. Upon the user selecting a portion of interest within the web page, data required to display the selected portion in the larger size is downloaded and displayed.
