Disclosed is a system and a method for transmitting/receiving update information of Electronic Service Guide (ESG) data in a Digital Video Broadcasting-Handheld (DVB-H) system. For this, the system for transmitting/receiving the update information includes a DVB-H system for detecting the version of the ESG data which is to be transmitted, for inserting the version information of the ESG data in a predetermined table among tables containing Program Specific Information/Service Information (PSI/SI) data, and for transmitting the version information of the ESG data included in the predetermined table; and a DVB-H receiving terminal for receiving PSI/SI data and then analyzing the received PSI/SI data to detect the version of the ESG data from the analyzed PSI/SI data, for comparing the detected version of the ESG data with version information of ESG data detected from PSI/SI, which has been already received, in order to check if the two versions accord with each other, and for making connection with a transmission channel of the ESG data if the two versions do not accord with each other, to receive the ESG data, and then to update the received ESG data.

Disclosed is a DMB data receiving apparatus and method for improving a DMB data receiving speed. According to the DMB data receiving apparatus and method, if there are predetermined MSC data, which have not been received or received with an error when receiving MSC data by a DMB reception terminal, the DMB reception terminal can receive the predetermined MSC data through a return channel established between the DMB reception terminal and a broadcasting station. In detail, if there are predetermined MSC data, which have not been received or received with an error, the DMB reception terminal request the broadcasting station to transmit the predetermined MSC data and to allow establishment of a return channel, and then receives the predetermined MSC data through a return channel established based on the request. Therefore, when some MOT content data have not been received or received with an error, the DMB reception terminal can immediately receive the corresponding MOT content data without waiting until the next MOT data transmission period begins, thereby greatly improving the DMB data receiving speed.

A home media gateway improving a thin client mode. General Internet data is separated from multimedia data and is processed differently and is sent to the home media gateway over a different channel to reduce the burden on the processor of the home media gateway. General Internet data is processed in a thin client server and the multimedia data is processed in a multimedia auxiliary processor of the home media gateway so that tasks to be processed by a main processor of the home media gateway can be reduced to a minimum and a load concentrated on the thin client server can be prevented. Also, since the multimedia auxiliary processor of the home media gateway directly processes multimedia data by hardware-based processing, there is an effect that the resulting processed multimedia data will have a quality better than if processed by software-based processing.

A method is disclosed for efficiently receiving Electronic Service Guide (ESG) data for a Digital Video Broadcasting-Handheld (DVB-H) broadcast service in a DVB-H reception terminal. When ESG data to which session partitioning rules are applied is received in a multiple-stream mode, session-by-session rules are detected. On the basis of the rules, sessions in which actual ESG data is carried are classified by roles required to provide the broadcast service. The associated ESG data from the sessions is acquired and stored. Since ESG data can be efficiently received by providing detailed guidelines for receiving the ESG data based on a session partitioning rule, a reception scheme of the DVB-H reception terminal can be significantly improved.
