摘要: A temperature sensing device includes two or more strips, wherein each of the two or more strips comprises a shape memory polymer adapted to undergo a change in a modulus of elasticity at a thermal transition temperature. A method comprises contacting two or more strips with an item, wherein each strip comprises a shape memory polymer adapted to undergo a change in a modulus of elasticity at a thermal transition temperature; equilibrating the two or more strips with the item; and determining a temperature range of the item by observing whether any of the two or more strips underwent a decrease in stiffness and/or increase in flexibility caused by the change in the modulus of elasticity of the shape memory polymer.

摘要: Disclosed herein is a locking mechanism for positioning or locking an article comprising a housing 3; an optional active element 6 in operative communication with a connecting means 22, wherein the active element 6 and the connecting means 22 are disposed within the housing 3; wherein the active element 6 upon being activated is capable of exerting a force on the connecting means 22; a compression initiation element 4 located within the housing 3, wherein the compression initiation element 4 comprises a shape memory material, and wherein the compression initiation element 4 upon activation facilitates the activation of the active element 6; and a spring stack 8 disposed adjacent to the compression initiation element 4, wherein the spring stack 8 is in operative communication with the compression initiation element 4 and wherein the spring stack 8 is configured to radially expand within the housing 3.

摘要: An exhaust system includes an exhaust conduit; a piezoelectric patch secured to the exhaust conduit; a sensor in operative communication with the exhaust conduit; and a controller in operative communication with the piezoelectric patch and the sensor, wherein the controller is configured to provide a signal to the piezoelectric patch and modify a sound emitted from the exhaust system. A method includes producing an exhaust gas in an exhaust conduit of an exhaust system; measuring an acoustic property of the exhaust gas, an acoustic property of the exhaust conduit, or a combination comprising at least one of the foregoing acoustic properties; applying an electrical signal to a piezoelectric patch, wherein the piezoelectric patch is secured to the exhaust conduit; and deforming the piezoelectric patch mechanically to modulate a sound emitted from the exhaust system.
