摘要: A haptic alert system generally includes an active material based actuator for providing the haptic alert. The active material based actuators refer to the use of several different classes of active materials all of which exhibit a change in at least one attribute such as dimension, shape, and/or flexural modulus when subjected to at least one of many different types of applied activation signals, examples of such signals being thermal, electrical, magnetic, stress, and the like.

摘要: A method for identifying available parking spaces. The method includes receiving data about a parking space from a vehicle, the data including a geographic indicator associated with the parking space. The data is stored in a database of available parking spaces. A geographic location is received from a parking space requestor. The database is searched for an available parking space within a proximity of the geographic location. If an available parking space within a proximity of the geographic location is located in the database, a geographic indicator associated with the available parking space is transmitted to the parking space requester.

摘要: A system and method for enhancing situation awareness of a vehicle operator is disclosed. Object data corresponding to objects detected within a region external to the vehicle are determined from radar, imaging, GPS, and vehicle-to-vehicle communication systems. A three-dimensional visualization of the region is rendered on a visual display based on the object data including representations of detected objects and the vehicle from a viewpoint perspective that is remote from the vehicle.

摘要: Reconfigurable structures include at least one hub, a plurality of arms attached to and extending from the at least one hub, wherein at least a portion of the arm and/or hub defines a node and is formed of an active material. The active material is adapted to change at least one attribute in response to an activation signal, wherein the change in the at least one attribute changes a modulus property, a shape orientation, or a combination of the modulus property change and the shape orientation change to the active material portion. The plurality of arms and at least one hub can form a reconfigurable opening for attaching and releasing a member. Alternatively, the plurality of arms and/or hub can further include a connector for attaching an additional structure. Also disclosed herein are methods for selectively reconfiguring a structure.

摘要: A method of predicting severity of a potential collision of a vehicle and an object. The method includes determining a probability of the potential collision. An elicitation signal is directed and transmitted to the object from the vehicle when the probability of the potential collision is greater than a threshold value. A response signal is received onboard the vehicle from a device situated on the object in response to the elicitation signal. The response signal includes a type associated with the object. A severity level of the potential collision is predicted based on the type.

摘要: Reversibly deployable energy absorbing assemblies for impact management generally include a translatable first element, a rigid support structure and a second element having one end fixedly attached to the rigid support structure and an other end fixedly attached to the translatable first element. The second elements are adapted to plastically deform along a predefined buckling path. The predefined buckling path may be uni-modal or multi-modal depending on the desired application and/or impact conditions. Also disclosed herein are methods for operating the energy absorbing assemblies.
